Sonic Milling has a patented technology that allows it to make outstanding Plant-Based Beverages. We are seeking a Research and Development Associate (Contract) to join our Saskatoon team. The R&D Associate (Contract) will support the R&D Manager in the development, optimization, and scale-up of plant-based beverage products, with a focus on innovation, formulation support, and plant trial execution. This role is hands-on and collaborative, bridging bench development with pilot and production activities at Sonic Milling Systems. The contract is for 6 months and has potential for extension based on project needs and performance.

- **Key Responsibilities**_

**R&D and Formulation Support**
- Assist with development and optimization of **plant-based beverage formulations** (oat, coconut, Almond, blended systems)
- Support formulation trials for texture, stability, flavor, and shelf life
- Prepare bench samples and support pilot
- and plant-scale trials
- Evaluate ingredient functionality and support ingredient screening

**Process & Scale-Up Support**
- Assist the R&D Manager during pilot and plant trials
- Support process optimization related to milling, homogenization, and thermal processing
- Document process learnings and trial outcomes
- Help translate R&D concepts into manufacturable solutions

**Stability, Quality & Troubleshooting**
- Support stability and shelf-life testing
- Assist with troubleshooting formulation or processing challenges (e.g., separation, flocculation)
- Collect, organize, and analyze trial and lab data

**Documentation & Reporting**
- Maintain formulation sheets, SOPs, and trial documentation
- Support preparation of technical summaries and internal reports
- Assist with maintaining organized R&D records and trackers

**Cross-Functional Support**
- Work closely with R&D, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams
- Support customer-facing trials and technical requests as directed by the R&D Manager
- Assist with coordination of samples, ingredients, and testing
- **Qualifications**_
- Degree or diploma in Food Science, Chemistry, Food Technology, or related field
- 1-3 years experience in food or beverage R&D (plant-based experience an asset)
- Basic understanding of beverage formulation and processing
- Comfortable working in pilot and manufacturing environments
- Strong attention to detail and organization
