Security Guard

Do you have a valid Alberta Security Guard license and have experience working in frontline and crisis intervention? The Mustard Seed is seeking a _**_Security Guard_**_ in _**_Grande Prairie._**

The Security Officer will provide front line security support (static and mobile) to the Grande Prairie building, often being the first point of contact for residents, Mustard Seed staff, and visitors. This position is fast-paced, and the incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while always maintaining a professional approach. Primary to this role is the monitoring of building access through encoded key FOBs, and the overseeing of activities within and around the property via CCTV surveillance of the buildings. Liaising with all client support staff, managing phone calls, and conducting security patrols within and around The Mustard Seed’s properties will also be important to optimizing safety, service and a sense of community within the buildings.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Supervise building access.
- Provide a visible and attentive security presence on the main floor of the building, completing nightly surveillance in the building, perceiving and responding to opportunities that will optimize safety, and build community;
- Monitor the resident, staff, and visitor activities within and around the properties and parking lot, providing support and crisis intervention as required;
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with all client support staff;
- Inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting Obtains help by sounding alarms. Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures
- Conduct security patrols, baggage check, complete logs, and prepare reports as required;
- Keep all client information confidential;
- Other duties and tasks as required.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Post-secondary education in related field preferred;
- Valid Alberta Security Guard license;
- Front line experience in working with vulnerable populations;
- Experience with crisis intervention and problem solving considered an asset;
- Good organizational and time management skills;
- Strong relationship building and communication skills;
- Experience or willing to gain experience using CCTV security systems;
- A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team;
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Training and uniform will be provided for this position
- This position will require working inside and outside in various climates, and will involve moderate levels of physical effort, including but not limited to, standing for long periods, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting.
- Steel toe shoes are required. Protective footwear must be worn at all times regardless of the presence of a hazard.
- This position requires focused mental effort, including but not limited to, adapting to an often fast-paced environment, operating a computer, using a CCTV security system, using two-way radio communications, perceiving and quickly responding to crises within and around the building.
- Understand that some Mustard Seed clients may have personal issues that results in them using inappropriate language that could be considered angry, argumentative, discriminatory, and demeaning
- Complete required training to be fully equipped to work with the guests and clients of the organization; know how to de-escalate a situation while remaining calm and professional
- The position will require, frequent manual labor, conflict resolution and organizational ability
- A clear Driver’s Abstract is required prior to offer of employment
- Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, SafeTALK, Nonviolence) and attend monthly general meetings and support meetings with supervisor
