Overview:
The Terminal Operator is responsible for supporting all phases of the terminal operations in a safe, efficient, reliable, economical manner and ensure quality and environmental standards are maintained. The position requires the hands-on operation of all terminal equipment, developing a familiarity with loading and offloading hot asphalt oil to/from Super B trailers.
**Responsibilities**:
- Performing all duties with emphasis on Safety procedures and adhering to policies;
- Ship & receive liquid asphalt, loading into trucks
- Ensure attention to detail, accurate data entry & customer service;
- Equipment maintenance such as compressors, pumps, motors, heat exchangers, & valves;
- Operation of skid steers, forklifts and front-end loaders.
- Loading and unloading hot asphalt oil into tanker trucks.
- Transferring oil from one tank to another.
- Heating oil through a heat exchanger.
- Daily plant maintenance.
- Daily housekeeping.
**Specific Accountabilities**:
- Comply with all company safety rules and performs all duties in a safe and approved manner.
- Comply with all known Local, Provincial and Federal Laws and Regulations.
- Load bulk unit trucks correctly, providing legal weights and proper product for customer delivery and/or pick-up.
- Perform routine maintenance on all terminal property and equipment. Maintain the terminal in a clean and presentable state.
- Perform clerical functions following the established guidelines for the recording of receipts, shipments and inventory records.
- Refer to the Terminal Coordinator, sales person or District Sales Manager all customer complaints.
- Assist with training of new employees.
- Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of all terminal equipment, including mobile equipment, crane operation and rigging.
- Ability to stand long periods, sitting, bending, twisting and climbing many consecutive flights of stairs.
- Ability to move at heights, in enclosed or confined spaces, near water, work around moving equipment and machinery and physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to wear a respirator, a full body harness, and other required personal protective equipment.
- Must be courteous, professional, safe, and have a positive attitude while working with customers, employees and the general public. Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to recognize and correct deficiencies, maintain high quality standards and work without supervision.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing with employees, customers, sales personnel, trucking firms and suppliers.
Qualifications:
**Education**:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent preferred
- Post secondary, trades, education a definite asset
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:
- Operations experience, demonstrating:
- Mechanically inclined an asset
- Ability to operate equipment
- Excellent communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills, pleasant and positive working attitude with customers, employees and the public.
- Experience in construction materials industry is an asset
- Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends and nights.
- Proven self-starter, reliable
- Ability to operate equipment, including mobile equipment
- Proven ability to work in a team environment
- Able to perform clerical tasks in a neat and accurate manner.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Awareness of environment / safety / quality / transport rules and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of material handling processes and equipment.
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
