**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FMO), South Island, the Manager, Construction & Building Maintenance is responsible for the organization and management of Physical Plant Services which includes responsibility for the coordination of trades supervisors, staff, contractors, and technical staff related to minor capital improvements and similar construction projects. Coordinates maintenance programs related to building fabric and grounds. Contributes to capital planning and construction management and represents the department for major capital tenant and building improvements.

The Manager is responsible for project management, minor capital equipment and project requests, installation and construction, long-range capital maintenance planning for buildings and grounds, and grounds contract administration.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a diploma in Architecture, Building Construction or Carpentry CQ, management and facilities management courses, technologist or trade qualifications, and ten (10) years' related management experience such as facility maintenance and construction and/or hospital plant operations.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Sound knowledge of various mechanical, electrical and building trades.
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to working with all levels of staff.
- Ability to work as a member of the management team.
- Valid BC Drivers Licence and use of personal vehicle to facilitate multi-site travel.
