Assistant Controller - North Vancouver/Port Coquitlam Are you ready to take your career to the next level? This is your chance to make a significant impact while growing professionally in a dynamic and supportive environment. **About the Role**: As an integral member of our team, you will provide financial control and support to our group of companies, its accounting department, and senior management. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller you will work closely with senior management to ensure the financial health and efficiency of our operations. **Location**: Two days a week at the Head Office in North Vancouver and three days a week at the Brymark Office Port Coquitlam. **Key Responsibilities**: Accounting and Reporting - Assist the controller in overseeing accounting and finance-related activities for the business. - Assist the controller in overseeing department functions, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger maintenance, cost accounting, cash management, and variance analysis. - Coordinate responsibilities within team members to manage and meet deadlines. - Oversee job structure and all aspects of job reporting, including job setup and related billings. - Manage daily cash flow and collections. - Prepare financial statements, identifying and explaining variances (actual vs. budget). - Support year-end audit, including preparation of working papers, analysis, and other required support. Leadership - Support the team and provide effective leadership for the group of companies. - Understand the unique needs and requirements of both the Finance and Construction teams, providing insight and leadership to foster collaboration and continuous improvement. - Promote a culture of teamwork within the finance and accounting team, and the company as a whole, by coaching, directing, and assisting staff as needed. - Manage and motivate the finance and administrative team of 5 staff members. Operational Support - Provide support to the business. - Identify opportunities to add value by supporting the team. - Recommend and implement new controls and processes. - Prepare and analyze reports for key stakeholders as requested. Qualifications / Requirements / Knowledge - CPA designation - Minimum of 3 years supervising accounting staff - Familiarity with Acumatica is beneficial - Experience in the construction industry and unionized environments - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel pivot tables - Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle Skills / Abilities / Attributes - High personal, professional, and ethical standards - Collaborative, proactive, and results-oriented mindset - Excellent communication and relationship-building skills - Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities - Proven leadership and coaching skills - Experience with change management - Effective prioritization and time-management skills What We Offer - Competitive base salary: $90,000 - $110,000 per year. - Company-paid RRSP - Bonus eligibility. - Professional development opportunities. - 14 statutory holidays per calendar year. - Competitive benefits program. - The opportunity to grow with a BC family-owned and operated company.
