**Purpose of the Position**:
CIFAR is strongly committed to creating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment for all members of our community. Reporting to the Head, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), the Manager, EDI Initiatives, will lead the delivery, implementation and assessment of initiatives emerging from CIFAR’s EDI Action Plan. This will include working collaboratively with all teams at CIFAR to embed EDI practices and principles in CIFAR’s functions and to align efforts, design programs, and assess progress.

**Responsibilities**:
**Programs & Initiatives**
- Managing EDI projects from start to finish designed to ensure equitable selection and treatment of members of the CIFAR community, including identifying relevant stakeholders, developing and executing work plans and assessing impact
- Partnering with the Human Resources (HR) team on EDI-HR projects related to recruitment, performance management, wellness, learning and development and additional HR functions
- Partnering with the Research & Knowledge Mobilization and Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy teams to promote and implement practices that will increase diversity within CIFAR’s research community and foster inclusive spaces
- Advising and supporting the President’s Office, Advancement, Communications, Government Relations and other Shared Services teams, as needed
- Leading the collection and analysis of annual diversity and inclusion data, in collaboration with the Research team
- Being responsible for the coordination and support of EDI-focused working groups and committees to enhance organization-wide engagement in EDI initiatives
- Leading the development of presentations, guidelines and learning materials to advance the adoption of EDI programs
- Contributing to the planning and preparation of meeting materials and additional documentation, as needed.

**Community Engagement and Collaboration**
- Researching and developing opportunities for active participation in the EDI landscape to strengthen learning, share challenges and best practices and broaden the reach of CIFAR’s impact
- Working closely with the Head, EDI, to build meaningful and reciprocal relationships with groups/organizations supporting equity-deserving communities in research
- Acting as a liaison to organizational working groups and project teams to ensure that an EDI lens is embedded in all CIFAR activities

**Education and Awareness**
- Researching and sharing best practices in EDI to support teams in their commitments to embed EDI into the organization’s activities
- Building organizational capacity on EDI by identifying and delivering educational sessions/modules for staff, researchers, board and advisory committees
- Working closely with the Head, EDI to identify and develop initiatives that will benefit the broader research community.

**Qualifications**:
**Education/Experience required**:

- Knowledge of EDI best practices, challenges, and strategies,
- Knowledge of conflict resolution, human rights, anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices
- Experience leading and implementing EDI initiatives in a complex organization, ideally an academic/research environment.
- Experience managing multiple and diverse stakeholder relationships
- Experience with developing and facilitating data and research-informed, practical EDI workshops and an understanding of key success factors
- Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous community and/or equity-deserving group will be considered an asset

**Core Professional/Technical Knowledge & Skills required for the position**:

- Project management, planning and execution skills
- Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, with the ability to work well independently and in a collaborative team
- Demonstrated effective and flexible communication skills necessary for one on one, small group and larger group interactions
- Ability to deliver effective presentations and written communications to various audiences
- Active listening skills supporting effective engagement at all levels of the organization
- Ability to analyze a variety of data types, think critically and identify gaps and opportunities
- Commitment to confronting forms of oppression by challenging exclusionary practices and supporting colleagues should they experience discrimination and harassment.
