**VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY** " Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." - Elizabeth Andrew The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime. **We are looking for Support Worker volunteers to serve marginalized women and children access various drop-in services and resources in a safe, warm, and welcoming manner in Victoria location.** **KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**: - Supports in community outreach. - Establishes and builds rapport with the clients, including providing emotional support. - Provides support related to finding resources and referrals (either from community partners or self-referred) for needed community services. - Helps clients with completion of forms, such as consideration of alternative measures and diversion. - Works with community partners. - Other tasks, as needed. **QUALIFICATIONS**: - Excellent interpersonal behaviour and good communication skills both written and verbal. - Strong organizational and time management skills. - Understanding of homelessness, mental health, and addiction issues. - Ability to respond to clients with mental health and addiction issues in an appropriate manner. - Crisis management and de-escalation skills are essential. **MANDATORY VOLUNTEER PREREQUISITES**: - Meets the minimum time commitment of 3 hours per week for six (6) months at a minimum, preferably Tuesdays, 10:00am - 8:00pm or Wednesdays - Sundays, 10:00am - 4:00pm. - Must be aged 19 years or over. - Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status. - Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
