This role also optimizes the contribution of the team through coaching, counseling and implements workable solutions to business issues/problems within the payroll department.

**KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Payroll & Benefits**
- Verify source payroll data (timesheets & timecards) for input into payroll system.
- Prepare payroll submission for a weekly and by-weekly payroll.
- Assist with the maintenance of all full time and part time employee files.
- Assist with the administration of new hires and terminations.
- Prepare and file payroll reports and forms as required for government employment programs (Employment Insurance (EI), Record of Employment (ROE), EI request for Payroll information on employees, CPP).
- Prepare other statutory and contractual reports and remittances for payment in accordance with required deadlines.
- Assist with the coordination of group benefit payments, union benefit remittances, and the pension plan for all eligible employees.
- Assist with communication between relevant agencies and employees on benefit inquiries.
- Keep apprised of current statutory program and benefit rates changes, union benefit rates, OMERS contribution rates, insurance premium rates and other plan changes in the organization.
- Keep updated knowledge of current payroll practices and legislated standards.
- Supervise, coach/mentor payroll staff.

**Accounting & Administrative**
- Prepare payroll accounting journal entry for entry to the General Ledger.
- Analyze and reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
- Prepare, review and distributes T4 information slips for year end.
- Reconciliation of the payroll register to the general ledger.
- Assist with interim and year end audits.

**General**
- Act as backup to other payroll staff.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and/or VP of Finance & Administration.

**JOB SPECIFICATIONS**
- Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification and five to seven years of payroll and benefits processing, in a non-unionized and unionized environment.
- Superior knowledge of payroll administration principles and practices.
- Sound knowledge of a payroll input software.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate well in an internal and external environment.
- Superior knowledge of employment legislation and government benefits.
- Knowledge of OMERS administration plan an asset.
- Experience with software implementation of new payroll providers an asset

**WORKING** **CONDITIONS**
- Flexibility in hours and schedules and include work on nights and weekends as required.
- Lack of natural light in workplace.
- Occasional objectionable odours in workplace.
- Travel between TO Live venues as required
