Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement. **_*This position has a flexible start date and is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement*_** **_An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code._** **The salary range for this position is**: - **Recruitment range: $80,232 - $100,160** maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity. - **Performance range: $115,106**salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. - Black people - Job Summary The Advisor, Black Inclusion Initiatives develops and facilitates the delivery of training and programs that increase understanding of UVic’s commitments to anti-Black racism and Black inclusion, serving as a catalyst for measurable change across the university and within the broader landscape of Canadian higher education. Reporting to the Associate Director Institutional Initiatives, the Advisor, supports UVic’s implementation of the Scarborough Charter, ensuring that principles of Black flourishing, inclusive excellence, mutual accountability, and reciprocal community engagement are transformed into actionable, sustained outcomes. By grounding this work in lived experience, critical research, and collaborative approaches, the role affirms the university’s responsibility to move beyond symbolic gestures toward structural transformation. Working in close partnership with the UVic Scarborough Charter Steering Committee (SCSC) and providing EQHR advisory services, coordination, research, and engagement support, the role: - Serves as a liaison to the UVic Scarborough Charter Steering Committee, ensuring alignment between institutional commitments and committee priorities. - Participates in proactive education and programming and culturally responsive actions related to the intake process for complaints and concerns. - Centers Black voices in institutional decision-making - Bridges the gap between policy and practice in equity work - Builds sustainable structures for long-term accountability This mandate reflects both the urgency of addressing anti-Black racism in higher education and the long-term commitment required for transformative inclusion. Strategic Importance: This role is vital to UVic’s efforts to address anti-Black racism with depth and intention. It serves as a mechanism for long-term institutional change, rooted in relational accountability and sustained commitment. The Advisor contributes to cultivating environments where Black individuals can thrive, not only through responsive actions but through systems that reflect care, transparency, and trust. - Job Requirements **Required**: - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Education, Public Policy, Equity Studies), with a Master’s degree preferred. - A minimum of 7 years of related experience in areas such as: - Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) work, particularly anti-Black racism and Black inclusion - Community engagement and relationship-building, especially with Black communities - Policy development and implementation in post-secondary or public sector settings including strategic planning and project coordination - Understanding of anti-Black racism in Canadian/post-secondary contexts - Lived experience as a Black person and/or deep understanding of anti-Black racism in Canadian contexts - Commitment to Black flourishing and institutional change - Demonstrated cultural humility when engaging with Black communities - Adaptability in fast-paced, evolving equity work - Discretion when handling sensitive topics **Preferred (Assets)**: - Experience in post-secondary environments (student affairs, research, administration) - Project coordination (events, workshops, mentorship programs) - Policy/research experience (e.g., data collection, report wr
