Job Description
Reporting to the Director, Compliance, the Manager, Internal Compliance is responsible for executing the Internal Compliance Program (ICP) and leading the Internal Compliance (IC) team in supporting various business activities related to meeting and administering the compliance objectives of the AESO, including but not limited to the coordination of audits, mock audits, internal monitoring activities, self-certification and self-report assessments and submissions.
This position requires the ability to successfully lead the ICP processes within a dynamic environment by thinking and acting strategically, collaborating cross-functionally across all levels of the organization, developing, and delivering learning content, fulfilling reporting requirements and managing externally facing relationships that interface with the ICP.

Accountabilities:
Leadership- Provides tactical and strategic leadership to IC team on all matters relating to the high functioning execution of the ICP.- Leads the IC team to ensure deliverables are executed in a high quality, timely and efficient manner.- Recruits and trains IC employees to promote understanding of the AESO’s IC functions and facilitates development of requisite skill sets and competencies required to carry out the ICP processes.- Facilitates an empowering and rewarding team culture that encompasses meaningful coaching, celebrating success, respect for diverse opinions, personalities and skills and promoting an environment of learning and teaching.- Contributes to the development of department-level OKRs and subsequently leads the IC team in developing performance and development plans aligned to the department objectives and individual career goals.- Contributes to the development of annual budgets and manages expenses accordingly.- Coordinates with Compliance leaders in the areas of resource management and strategic alignment.
Internal/External Stakeholder Interactions- Collaborates with various internal business units to support their accountabilities for compliance with authoritative documents (Alberta Reliability Standards, ISO rules, key Alberta legislation, ISO Tariff, etc.) and provides practical advice to enhance the AESO’s demonstration of compliance and improvements to internal controls.- Develops communication strategies to facilitate AESO employee learning activities to promote a culture of compliance, heightened awareness of the AESO’s compliance obligations, and improved understanding of compliance issues, policies, and procedures.- Leads or participates in cross functional projects and initiatives.- Represents the AESO in dealings with external stakeholders (e.g., MSA, WECC).
Program Administration- Establishes and maintains a ICP structure with supporting processes that effectively and efficiently deliver on corporate obligations related to the ICP, and updates aspects of the ICP in accordance with the principles of continuous improvement, as required.- Ensures the execution of the ICP and supporting processes provide effective and reasonable assurance that the AESO’s compliance obligations with authoritative documents in scope of the ICP are being met.- Provides relevant data for reporting purposes and is accountable for enhancing data analytic and reporting capabilities for the IC function.- Plans and coordinates audits, mock audits, internal monitoring activities, self-certification and sel
