Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, the Supervisor, Parks is responsible for works related to parks maintenance in the north part of the city, as well as citywide loose leaf collection and winter control operations.

Responsibilities

As a Supervisor, you will lead, develop, coach and mentor a team of approximately 30 full-time and seasonal parks operations staff, and as a member of the RPF supervisory team, you will be responsible for:
- Supervising staff and contractors in the daily operation and maintenance of city parks and related facilities, in accordance with all applicable legislation.- Supervising staff and contractors during loose leaf collection and winter control operations in accordance with all applicable legislation and minimum maintenance standards.- Recruiting, training, developing, and evaluating staff, including full-time and seasonal; reviewing employee performance on a regular basis and take supportive action as required.- Ensuring service levels are met for parks maintenance programs such as turf management, horticulture, sportsfields (artificial and natural), pathways, playgrounds, public washrooms, waste management and special event support.- Delivering services within allotted budget and in alignment with City and Departmental priorities, standards, specifications, policies, procedures and legislated requirements.- Responding to customer information and service requests received through Service Burlington’s customer relationship management system in a timely and professional manner.- Utilizing human resource and finance software to effectively manage tasks relating to time and attendance, recruitment/on-boarding, learning and development, performance management, payroll, procurement and reporting.- Documenting and tracking daily work activities accurately through a work order management system.- Monitoring expenditures and recommending appropriate actions to address variances, within areas of responsibility.- Developing, revising and implementing safe job procedures and guidelines as required.- Tracking, analyzing and reporting on operational performance, activities and costs; recommending and implementing program changes to achieve higher levels of service, efficiency and safety.- Scheduling and overseeing procurement of required services, materials and equipment, including specification development and service contract audits, in support of both operating and capital projects.- Investigating insurance claims and attending examinations for discovery and court, as required.- Participating in the on-call rotation through the year, including regular and after-hours oversight of winter control operations.- Providing first response, in accordance with Corporate and Department Emergency Plans.- Ensuring all work practices and procedures comply with the City of Burlington’s Health and Safety Program policies and guidelines.- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

You have a track record of leadership success in a progressive work environment, with proven project and people management, organizational and customer service skills. You demonstrate creativity and adaptability in complicated and difficult situations, and in managing conflicting demands.

A valid Class-G driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire)
