The **Indie Alehouse** is growing and looking for additional help to join the brewing team.
Job description:
- Position requires working as a part of the brewing team in many capacities and will include responsibilities in all areas of brewing, planning, and packaging at all of our three locations. Main duties will consist at our Dundas brewpub facility, time will also be spent at the brewpub in downtown Toronto and our production facility in Etobicoke.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Good cleaning and sanitization knowledge and following proper cleaning protocols
- All elements of safety procedures including: following of proper protocols and handling of brewery chemicals
- All elements of brewhouse operations that include: grain handling, wort production, spent grain handling, wort cooling, and cleaning
- All elements of cellar operations that include: beer transfers, dry hopping, carbonation, tank cleaning and sanitation, general maintenance and cleaning
- All elements of packaging operations that include: keg cleaning and filling, bottle and can filling operations, carbonation, and cleaning
- All elements of wood aged beer program operations that include: Oak cleaning and sanitizing, beer transfers, blending and tasting.
- Maintaining the safety and effective operation of brewery equipment and other related machinery
- Assisting in facility operations with boiler, chiller, compressors, pumps etc. and general facility maintenance and upkeep
- Assisting quality control program including: yeast management, cell counting, viability testing, and sampling tanks in accordance with the QC program
- Operating forklifts, scissor lift, pallet jacks and hand trucks and assisting with shipping/receiving of raw materials and equipment
- Assisting with deliveries to brewpubs not limited to ingredients and packaged goods
- Have a basic understanding of Excel, Word, EKOS and other programs for brewery functions
- Following and continuing development of procedures to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and profitability
Key skills and requirements:
- Diploma or courses in Brewing Operations with previous experience in commercial brewing, preferred
- Strong Knowledge of the brewing fundamentals and processes
- Strong work ethic and problem-solving ability
- Careful attention to detail, a commitment to efficient and effective work, both individually and as part of a team
- Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, confined, wet, loud environment on one’s feet for most of the day and repeatedly and safely lift 30kg
- Requires the ability to safely work in confined spaces and various heights
- Sense of innovation is a plus
- Willingness and desire to always learn is a must
- Must have a flexible schedule (days/nights/weekends) and be willing to work overtime on occasion (scheduled events, extra production, unexpected events, delays, etc.)
- Must be 19 years of age with valid drivers license and clean driving record
