Volunteer Nanaimo is a non-profit organization serving the community since 1979. Our YouthNetwork program, running since 2001, promotes volunteerism among youth ages 11-29. The Youth Development Coordinator will help deliver this program in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and community members. This summer position, funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program, is open to youth up to 29 years old.

**Dates of Employment**

June 30, 2025 - August 31, 2025

**Goal**:

- Support and supervise youth ages 11-29, including marginalized youth, in meaningful volunteer opportunities that build skills, confidence, and community connections; and help youth lead, plan, and manage events and projects that address community needs.

**Activities**:

- Supervise youth ages 11-29 in various community, volunteer, and social events.
- Assist with recruitment, marketing, and social media for the YouthNetwork project.
- Help youth plan and implement meaningful projects, events, and activities.
- Provide youth with volunteering information, training, and resources.
- Maintain participant records and complete reporting.
- Maintain strong relationships with community groups and partner organizations.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred.
- Experience working with youth preferred.
- Experience using social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, WordPress) and standard computer software.
- Team player with excellent communication skills.
- Inclusive and respectful of diversity.
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, project reporting activities, record-keeping, report writing, and data gathering.

**Working Conditions**

This is a term position from June 30, 2025 - August 31, 2025. The wage is $19.00 per hour at 30 hours per week. Evening and weekend work is required. Applicants must complete a vulnerability Criminal Record Check.
