Continuing Care. Employing approximately 550 highly skilled and dedicated employees, Norfolk General Hospital continues to be a full service 106-bed hospital with round the clock on-call coverage of Specialists in Surgery,

Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics, as well as on-site 24 hour per day medical coverage.

Simcoe is less than one hour away from most major centers, including Hamilton and London, and only 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area. Situated in Norfolk County (Ontario’s South Coast), Simcoe is not far from Lake Erie and the 88 miles of shoreline that includes long stretches of sandy beach.

**Position Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Planning, organizing and directing activities designed to meet the physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of the patients
- Conducting individual patient assessments upon admission
- Providing Activity leadership, charting and developing patient evaluations
- Communicating information to various stakeholders both verbal and written, ie, preparing newsletters, scheduling change notices, program updates, letters, etc.
- Maintaining supplies and equipment
- Controlling petty cash and the Sunshine Fund
- Placing, training and supervising staff and volunteers involved in the delivery of Activation Programs
- Recording attendance, daily statistical information and ongoing audits
- Organizing, recording minutes and providing support to the activities and bi-monthly meetings of the

Resident’s Council
- Attending assigned Committee meetings
- Coordinating Volunteer Activities; including orientation/training, scheduling, workshops, general supervision
- Responsible for all CQI activities for the programs with reports to the Senior Occupational Therapist or

Director of Rehabilitation Services
- Collaborates with Senior Occupational Therapist with regards to policies and procedures with the unit
- Collaborating in budget preparation for the program
- Responsible for public education - media interviews
- Supervising weekend or evening activities
- Adherence to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions and the recognition and reporting of unsafe hazards and work practices

**Position Qualifications**:

- Post Secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation
- Specialized training/certification in Gerontology preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience in working in Therapeutic/Activation setting
- Proven ability to meet the physical conditions of the position
- Demonstrated willingness to assist in the delivery of patient activities, including patient lifts/transfers
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality initiatives
- Possess a class “F” drivers license
- Certification in BCLS

Hours of Work:

- Must work shifts, weekends and holidays as required.

**Salary**: $28.78-$31.50 per hour
