**Council Support Co-op (4 months)**

We are looking for a highly motivated, detail and team-oriented student that has an interest in learning about municipal governance and community support initiatives. This role will provide policy research and administrative support to Mayor and Council from May to August 2025.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Manages correspondence, including responding to public inquiries and directing them to the appropriate department.
- Maintains records and filing systems for council-related documents.
- Conducts research on municipal policies, bylaws, and programs to support council decision-making.
- Helps draft press releases, newsletters, and website updates related to council activities.
- Assists with event planning for council meetings, town halls, and community events.
- Supports community engagement efforts.
- Assists with front counter reception and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff.
- Supports special projects or strategic initiatives under the direction of council or senior staff.

**Competencies & Qualifications**:

- Must be enrolled in a post-secondary Public Administration, Communications, Political Science program (or equivalent).
- Strong computer literacy skills including Microsoft office suite and social media.
- Able to communicate effectively, professionally and courteously with all levels of staff, external contacts and the general public.
- Able to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public.
- General knowledge of local government functions/services, and legislative/regulatory framework for employment in Ontario would be an asset.
- Able to submit a successful Criminal Record & Police Information Check as a pre-condition of employment.

The hourly rate for this position is $21.08 (2025 rates) per hour.
