Options Community Services is a non-profit registered charity providing social services primarily in Surrey, Delta,

community.

The Child & Youth Transition House Worker provides direct support to resident children, co-ordinates and implements

children’s programs, provides parenting support and information to resident mothers. Can be scheduled or called

upon to perform Transition House Worker duties and responsibilities by supervisors, when needed. **These positions**
**are open to Female applicants only.** **These positions require union membership. Compensation is in accordance**
**with Appendix A of the BCGEU Collective Agreement.**

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Monitors and ensures the safety and comfort of children or youth. Reports any problems to the supervisor and

responds to emergencies in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensures that services for children are provided in collaboration and consultation with their mothers and

according to each child’s individual needs. Recognizes and respects diverse parenting styles.
- Provides emotional support and feedback to children and youth to help them deal with the effects of domestic

violence.
- Provides parenting support to mothers and models effective and respectful parenting approaches.
- Educates mothers about the effects of domestic violence on children, and provides information and strategies

on how to appropriately manage challenging behaviors.
- Accommodates requests for childminding as program needs dictate. This will require flexibility with site

location as determined by the Program Coordinators.
- Coordinates and implements children’s recreational activities such as craft projects, and indoor and outdoor

games and garden activities. Prepares and set ups equipment or materials for activities and playing.
- Performs other duties as required.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education, Training, and Experience**:

- A Diploma in a related field and/or relevant training and demonstrated experience working with mothers and

children and youth who have been exposed to violence and abuse
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal record search
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License, satisfactory Driver’s Abstract, and permanent use of a reliable vehicle are

required for this position
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificate required
- Food Safe Certificate an asset

**Knowledge**:

- Must possess an excellent understanding of the dynamics of violence against women in relationships and the

intergenerational impact of abuse
- Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and legislation

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Must be available to work Sundays to Wednesdays.
- Multilingualism an asset
- Provide parenting support for mothers surrounding the effects on children and youth who have been exposed to

relationship abuse and violence
- Coordinate and implement children’s recreational activities
- Organize and provide child services that are culturally appropriate
- Familiarity with appropriate community resources and excellent advocacy skills
- Maintain children’s toys, equipment and facilities, both inside and outside, especially with regard to safety,

cleanliness, tidiness, repair, and comfort
- Provide educational opportunities to schools, groups, etc., as requested by the program manager or

coordinator
- Proven ability to work effectively in a stressful environment
