Alex House is a member of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses BC (ANHBC), a non-profit community-based organization est. in 1894. Alex House operates multiple sites in Surrey & White Rock, with our main facility in Crescent Beach, where we operate on the stolen and occupied land of Semiahmoo Nation. We offer programs and activities that contribute to a vibrant, caring and inclusive community, and we are committed to decolonizing our approach, while ensuring an anti-racism approach.

**Purpose**:
The Youth Space is a safe, sober and inclusive space for youth aged 10-24 to create, connect and innovate. We require an experienced Youth Worker, committed to empowering youth and comfortable working with youth in a group setting. Key responsibilities include facilitating a social and emotional skills building group for youth 10-13; development of life skills programming; and strengthening supports for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. This is a 28-35 hour/week position supporting youth in the South Surrey/White Rock area and requires late afternoon/evening work.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide direct service (group and individual), support program development and day to day activities of the Youth Space
- Work as part of a team - including Youth, Youth Collective, staff, and volunteers, in the identification, development, facilitation, and evaluation of programming
- Engage youth with diverse skills and abilities in trying new activities and leading programs
- Engage in community outreach
- Establish professional, collaborative working relationships with community partners
- Comply with all relevant reporting, confidentiality and record-keeping requirements

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Proven ability to connect with and meet youth “where they’re at”
- Understanding of the diverse needs of youth including youth living with mental health, substance use, and/or social challenges
- Knowledge of trauma informed, anti-oppressive, and harm reduction practices
- Empathic and non-judgmental attitude when interacting with youth
- Ability to set healthy professional boundaries with coworkers, youth, and community

Qualifications:

- Diploma, degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Education, Social Work or related field
- Direct experience working with youth in a group setting and providing individual support
- Valid driver’s license, use of a personal vehicle insured for business use with minimum $2 million liability and satisfactory current driver’s abstract (mileage paid)
- Current First Aid & CPR certificate; Foodsafe certification an asset
- Clean Criminal record check

**Hiring Range**:ANHBC Salary Grid $24.11-25.38/hr, plus benefits package

**Terms of Employment**: 28-35 hours/week, including afternoon/evening hours
