**Duties**:
Are you an ecologist with a passion for collaborative ecological restoration programs?
The Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR) is looking for a Forest Restoration Project Supervisor (EG-04) to serve as the scientific lead on the SḰŦÁMEN QENÁȽ,ENEȻ SĆȺ project. You will be joining a diverse team that is working towards sustained recovery of the forest ecosystem on Sidney Island, which has been highly degraded by decades of over-browsing by deer.
In this role you will work closely with Parks Canada staff, local residents, First Nations, and other project participants to implement forest restoration and wildlife management activities. Specifically, you will be working to design a deer management plan for Sidney Island, coordinating removal of invasive plant species and planting of native plants.
Duties will include:
- Contribution to writing impact assessments for planting and protecting native plants.
- Coordinating diverse groups of people to plant native plants.
- Coordinating contractors and staff during invasive plant removal.
- Direct contracted demographer during development of deer population model.
- Collaboratively develop deer management plan for Sidney Island.
- Contribute to monitoring of forest health measures.
- Conduct vegetation surveys in deer enclosures, as well as tree seedling surveys to quantify browse pressure.
- Assist with project reporting.

**Intent of the process**:
This process will be used to staff a full-time term vacancy from approximately May 2025 to May 2026 (12 months).
A qualifying list will be established and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures (indeterminate, seasonal, temporary, full-time, part-time) and various locations within the Parks Canada Agency.

EDUCATION:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology) or other discipline relevant to the position, or an acceptable combination of two years of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology, geology), training and experience in a field related to the position.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience leading and coordinating groups of people (including volunteers, staff, student groups) in ecological restoration activities.
- Experience working collaboratively with Indigenous Communities.
- Experience working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders, to plan wildlife management or ecological restoration initiatives.
- Experience designing ecological data collection protocols, managing data, and conducting data analyses (approximately two (2) years of experience).
