**Responsibilities**:
The Laboratory Technician will work in collaboration to ensure the safe and efficient operation of, and provide technical support for, first year physics laboratory courses under the direction of a supervisor. The role will assist with laboratory preparation, operate and set-up laboratory equipment and instrumentation for use in experiments, provide technical support, routine maintenance and problem resolution, clean up after the laboratory session is complete, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. The Laboratory Technician will also assist in collecting laboratory marks, preparing class lists, updating information in OWL, monitoring communications, and assist in addressing student and Teaching Assistant inquiries regarding laboratory teaching material and policies.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- 3 year University Bachelor's Degree in Physics or related program
- Experience:
- 2 years of experience working in a physics teaching laboratory environment
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of physics concepts at the undergraduate level
- Familiarity with, and knowledge of, equipment in a first year physics undergraduate teaching laboratory
- Familiarity with methods for research design, implementation, and analysis
- Familiarity with common laboratory practices, safe handling procedures, WHMIS and SDS
- Ability to prepare, setup and deploy teaching labs according to schedule and instructions
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Ability to follow formal business practices with high attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs (such as Slack, OWL, JIRA, Gradescope, Proctor Track, Mastering Physics)
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Teams)
- Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the laboratory (evenings and in-person on campus)
