Stable Hand

Sunrise International Inc is a family-owned business that operates a variety of Recreational and Hospitality businesses in Alberta and BC. We are currently seeking a motivated skilled horse lover to join our team as a Stable Hand. You will be employed within the Excella Equine Park division, and will support the barn manager in ensuring the care of the property and horses.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Ensure best practice, policies and procedures, and cleaning standards, educate, manage, and control all others using facilities.
- Diligently maintain facilities, pastures, paddocks, arenas, and grounds with at least one other staff member to maintain positive public image.
- Provide best care to horses, including feeding, stall cleaning, paddock/pasture cleaning, and routine daily horse care and be on call for 24hr emergency care as needed.
- Maintain fitness for daily stall cleaning, feeding, riding maintenance of property, light duty carpentry, landscape care, and snow removal.
- Light duty mechanical
- including maintenance of plumbing, electrical and farm equipment ability to run and maintain skid steer, farm & garden tractors.
- Watering and routine checks health & safety, cleaning/filling waterers, keeping feed areas clean mouse proof, all areas sanitised/disease free, pest and rodent control.
- Ensure daily turnout and/or exercise of horses and proper physical conditioning as well as mental health of horses, may include indoor/outdoor arena use, walks and trail rides, following manager directions.
- Horse nutrition and health, assisting with diet needs of horses, provide routine medical care, treat injuries, vaccines, deworming, assist farrier and notify vet if needed.
- Work with manager to anticipate and prevent any possible behavioral problems and work with horses to correct any existing issues.
- Manage breeding of mares and stallions, assisting with pre-natal care, foaling and imprinting and halter training of foals.
- Develop relationships with property owners and cater to horse owners in providing great horse related experiences.
- Provide hospitality to Excella Estates residents, family, friends and public visitors to the facilities allowing them to enjoy horses in a safe environment.
- Manage Risks research, acknowledge and follow all employer, insurance, municipal, provincial, and federal government, and horse association policies and legal regulations.
- Regular grooming of horses and show grooming, assist with horse show preparations, including cleaning tack and packing of supplies.
- General Cleaningof barn and property. Including, tack rooms, bathroom, lounge/kitchen area, cross-ties, wash bay, paddocks and stalls.
- Trailering Horses acclimate horses to loading and unloading horse trailers easily, ability to drive truck and four horse trailer and provide safe transportation of horses.
- May be tasked with other duties as needed by management.
- Report directlyto barn manager and manage other staff if/when barn manager is not present.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably as a Stable Hand or in a similar role
- 5+ years of experience around horses
- High school diploma
- Formal equine education is considered an asset
- Incumbent must be an animal lover
- Must be physically fit and able to spend long periods of time on your feet, bending, twisting, lifting and carrying up to 75lbs.
- Must be a self-starter and self-motivated, and able to effectively manage your time independently.

Pay: $18.00-$21.00 per hour
