Civil Construction Estimator

**Summary** Groundbreaking Foundations Inc. is a privately owned heavy civil engineering contractor and consultant based out of Toronto, Ontario who specialize in Noise Wall, Shoring, and Deep Foundations. This position requires the ability to visualize a project through various phases of construction by reviewing drawings and specifications and provide a detailed accurate estimate of the project costs. **Job Duties and Responsibilities** - Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build or general tender work: prepare materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out a construction project according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications. - Establish unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors and location impacts. - Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation and contingency. - Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. - Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation. - Review and analyze proposal specifications and drawings specifications, proposals and other documentation to accurately identify the project requirements and to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate. - Advise on proposal procedures to follow; and recommend/reject proposals and negotiate contracts. - Present estimates and conduct review meetings with clients. - Analysis and document project risks; participate and coordinate company risk and opportunity evaluation with clients. - Participate in presentations to management and clients. May be responsible for "closing the sale". - Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc. - Prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors. - Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials. - Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required. - May assist in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required. - Attend site meetings. - Track all RFQ solicitations, obtain and organize all tender documents (i.e. drawings, specifications, and addenda). - Work on multiple projects at the same time, with a high level of accuracy and efficiency. - Become familiar with design codes, standards, specifications and guidelines within the industry such as Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Drawings (OPSD), Municipal and City Design Guidelines, etc. - Provide support to the Project Coordinator/Manager as, required; support other department personnel as required which may include preparing estimates for other disciplines. **Effectively determine the bid strategies required for the company to be successful**: - Assist corporate and project management teams to determine what types of projects to bid on. - Maintain estimating schedule/calendar, including bid due dates and times. - Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare bid submissions to formulate a comprehensive quotation for the required scope of a project. - Seek out plan takers lists and develop bid lists. - Follow up on bid submissions. **Core Competencies** - High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. - Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering degree, or an appropriate field. - 3+ years of experience in cost estimation preferably in shoring or geo-structural; 1 year experience in Civil Engineering an asset - Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and as-builds. - Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material and labour estimates. - Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to interpret job cost reports. - Ability to use cost-estimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids. - Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel, word, etc.) - Effective verbal and listening communications skills. - Time management skills. - Must possess a valid driver's license. - Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current. - Problem solving skills - Accountability and Dependability - Customer and client focus - Ethics and Integrity - Valid Drivers License **Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year Additional pay: - Bonus pay **Benefits**: - Casual dress - Company events - Dental care - Disability insurance - Extended health care - Life insurance - On-site parking - Paid time off - RRSP match - Tuition reimbursement - Vision care - Wellness program - Work from home Flexible language requirement: - French not required Schedule: - Day shift - Monday to Friday Application question(s): - Valid drivers license? **Experience**: - civil construction estimating: 3 years (required) Wor
