Position Summary
The Patitent Support Assistant (PSA) provides support to clinical teams both on-site at the Hospital as well as providing support at the COVID-19 Testing Centre.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provides non-clinical support to front-line team members on-site at OSMH as well as at the COVID-19 Testing Centre
- Assists with wayfinding and portering within the hospital and will be deployed to various geographical areas across the hospital as the need arises at the discretion of the Program Manager.
- Greets individuals including patients and visitors, conduct a verbal and/or written screening, and ensuring individuals who are entering the Hospital and Testing Centre are donning masks, practicing hand hygiene and any other infection control measures as required.
- The PSA wears droplet personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes gown, gloves, and mask at times, as directed by the healthcare team. Additionally, the PSA must be able to withstand a significant amount of walking, standing, and general movement.

**Customer Service**:

- The PSA is responsible to provide a high degree of service to patients, visitors, staff and physicians
- Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of patients via a wheelchair, stretcher or bed

**Wayfinding**:

- Transport patients/visitors needing assistance via wheelchair dispatched by a staff person
- Assist patients/visitors in navigating through the department (bathroom locations, nutrition centre, etc.)

**Patient Transportation**:

- Respond to call for assistance with patient transportation by stretcher using the information provided by the staff person
- Confirm patient identifiers prior to all patient transportation tasks

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent required
- First Aid Certificate considered an asset

**Experience**:

- 1-2 years of customer service experience required
- Experience in a healthcare environment would be considered an asset

- Demonstrated knowledge of infection control practices,
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Flexible availability to work varied shifts (days, evenings, nights and weekends).
- Must be a self-starter with a positive nature, pleasant disposition, a can-do attitude and be a strong team player
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Must maintain confidentiality pertaining to patients and staff
- Adherence to policy and procedures related to health and safety and patient safety
- Ability to push and pull wheeled equipment and moveable carts
- Physical demands include:

- Able to lift, push and pull heavy loads (up to 60 lbs.)
- Repetitive light and heavy lifting
- Extensive walking throughout the shift
- Frequent standing throughout the shift
