Job Posting Summer Camp Assistant Director Salary Rate: $54,702 – Check out the YMCA’s Location: YMCA Camp Pine Crest Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week Employment Type: Contract Full Time Salaried (1 year with the possibility of extension) Number of Vacancies: 1 Anticipated Start Date: January 2, 2026 Deadline to Apply: December 19, 2025 at 5:00pm Be the Spark Join our dynamic Camping and Outdoor Education team, where every day is different, and you will always be engaged with meaningful work The Assistant Summer Camp Director provides year-round leadership to summer camp operations, ensuring all programs align with the camp’s guiding principles, YMCA Camping Quality Recommended Practices (CQRP), and Ontario Camping Association (OCA) standards. The role oversees all program areas, with significant responsibility for out-tripping and waterfront operations, and assumes full operational leadership in the absence of the Summer Camp Director. In collaboration with the Summer Camp Director, the position supports the delivery of March Break Overnight Camp and Family Camp. During the summer season, the Assistant Summer Camp Director plays a key onsite leadership role to ensure high-quality program delivery, safety, and participant experience. Outside the summer period, the role is heavily involved in staff recruitment, hiring, and onboarding, and contributes to budgeting, training, and ongoing program development. In this role, you will: Collaborate with the Summer Camp Director and full-time camp staff to ensure all programs and operations align with YMCA Camping Quality Recommended Practices (CQRP), Pine Crest guiding principles, YMCA strategic initiatives, and Ontario Camping Association (OCA) standards Contribute to the overall Camp Pine Crest Master Plan by participating in camp alumni committees, attending YMCA events and camp open houses, and actively cultivating donors Cultivate relationships with alumni, prospective families, and current camp families Act as the lead operational designate during the absence of the Summer Camp Director, maintaining continuity of leadership and decision-making across all camp functions Plan and oversee Pine Crest Out Tripping programs, including coordinating logistics, managing out-tripping equipment, training staff, and implementing risk management practices Organize and support the recruitment and hiring process for all seasonal staff, maintaining accurate tracking and records of seasonal HR files Ensure that all program-related expenses align with budget requirements and make adjustments throughout the season to remain on budget Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability among staff, promoting best practices and continuous improvement in service delivery Supervise and support seasonal camp staff by providing coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and performance appraisals Support compliance and quality assurance by monitoring program standards, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring documentation meets OCA and YMCA requirements Respond to parent and participant survey results and recommend appropriate seasonal changes based on feedback Focus on developing programs with a strong emphasis on safety, tradition, skill development, and fun Oversee daily camp operations, including staff coordination, program delivery, risk management, and adherence to health and safety protocols Make sure that all requirements for peer reviews, audits, and Ministry expectations are met through staff training, program setup, surveys, and staff management Ensure all camp areas are proactive in health and safety, with risk management plans in place and all audit requirements met Positively represent the camp year-round to the public and the camping community Perform other duties as assigned You bring: Post-secondary education in outdoor education or a related field, or equivalent experience National Lifeguarding (NLS) Certificate required Standard First Aid & CPR Level “C” required Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certificate an asset Challenges Unlimited (CUI) Level 2 Ropes Certification an asset Valid driver’s license and an F Class license before summer begins Minimum of 3 years of related experience in camping or outdoor education Supervisory experience preferred Knowledge and experience in canoe tripping and wilderness expeditions Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays required Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, volunteers, and staff Excellent written communication skills Demonstrated ability to lead and empower an inclusive staff team Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design What you need to succeed: Commitment to the YMCA’s Mission, Vision and Values Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services YMCA Competencies: Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter Why work for the YMCA?
