The department of Safety Engineering at AtkinsRéalis/CANDU Energy is engaged in the deterministic and probabilistic fire assessments in support of new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants as well as supporting the operation and safety of the existing domestic and international CANDU plants. The senior fire safety analyst will work together with other senior and junior staff to develop and apply advanced analysis methodologies to address client/project concerns regarding safety and licensing for plant support, refurbishment and new build. These include issues related to fire hazard assessment (FHA), fire probabilistic safety assessment (PSA), fire safe shutdown analysis (FSSA) or fire code compliance review (CCR). Location – Mississauga, ON Your role within the team: The candidates are expected to enhance their technical skills through on-the-job-training, and be ready to take on various technical tasks within a short period of time, this includes but not limited to: Work within the nuclear sector or energy facilities. Lead multiple engineering projects from inception through to delivery in support of fire safety standards and codes. Support the delivery of project work within time and cost budgets. Keep up to date with regulations and legislation. Developing fire engineering solutions on projects and ensuring the fire engineering strategy delivered. Assess fire related risks in projects and working collaboratively to mitigate where possible. Review fire protection design for code compliance review as per applicable codes and standards. Undertake tenders for new work. Prepare proposals, take part in analysis and design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required. Experience in team leading is a plus. Strong experience working with a range of building codes and fire standards including but not limited to NBCC, NFCC, CSA N293, CSA N393, NFPA 101, NFPA 72, NFPA 10, NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and NFPA 80. Being customer and end user centric and cultivate that philosophy in our team. Deliver technical presentations accurately and effectively. Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals. Profession Engineering license or able to work towards professionalism status. A flexible approach to the working environment. Willingness to travel will be a positive advantage. Strong Fire modelling experience using CFAST. Knowledge of fire modeling using FDS will be beneficial. Ability to collate information and have a clear and structured approach to report writing. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team including other engineering disciplines and technologists.
