About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service: The Halton Regional Police Service is excited to hire one motivated, reliable, and community-minded student to join our Records Team as a Summer Student from May to August 2026 As part of our respected Information and Records Services unit, you’ll work alongside dedicated professionals who support frontline officers and serve the public in a fast-paced administrative environment. Reporting to the Manager of Information and Records Services, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a variety of records management functions—an ideal opportunity for a college or university student eager to grow professionally and make a meaningful impact. In this role, you’ll play an essential part in our operations by assisting with data entry, processing Police Record Checks, and delivering excellent customer service at the public counter. Your contributions will help support our wide range of records and data management responsibilities, making you a valued and trusted member of the team. What you will Bring to the Role: Education, Certifications and Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate who is enrolled in post-secondary education preferably in Business Administration, Office Administration, Records and Information Management. The candidate must be returning to their program in September 2025. Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Our ideal candidate must possess strong integrity to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information. The candidate must also have solid computer skills required in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), and be able to learn new computer software programs quickly. exceptional interpersonal skills, communication (written, verbal, listening skills), highly organized due to various deadlines and attention to detail skills, and customer service skills. The candidate must be able to work independently on task and take initiative with assigned projects. The ideal candidate must be able to be flexible in order to adjust to different tasks assigned and hours of work. Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen. This position is based out of our Oakville Headquarters facility which is located at the QEW and North Service Road West.  Hourly Rate: This is a paid student position starting at $20.11 per hour for a four-month term (May to August 2026) contract Working Hours: 35 hours per week: Monday – Friday. Mini Video Interview Submission: Along with your resume and cover letter, please include a video submission introducing yourself, outlining your skills, knowledge and motivation for applying to your selected Summer Student Unit role, and describing the impact you believe you would make as a Summer Student with the Halton Regional Police Service. In your video, also identify two things you hope to gain from the summer experience if selected. Please note that your video submission should be 3–5 minutes in duration. Step 2: Resume Screening — December 16, 2025 to January 3, 2026 Step 3: Applicant Notifications — January 6, 2026. Applicants will be informed of their application status. Those selected to advance to the interview stage will receive an interview invitation. Step 4: Behavioural Interviews — Week of January 12 to January 22, 2026Selected applicants will be invited to attend in-person behavioural interviews. Step 5: Pre-Employment Checks — Week of January 26, 2026Pre-employment checks will be conducted for shortlisted candidates. These checks include a Security Check, Professional Reference checks, and any additional employment verifications relevant to the specific role. Note: The Security Check appointment must be completed in person. Step 6: Decision Making — Week of February 17, 2026. All applicants will be notified of their final application status via email.
