About the Opportunity Reporting to the Manager of Physician Resources, the Credentialing Officer is a member of the VP Medicine Portfolio. The Credentialing Officer is responsible for all aspects of physician, dentist, and affiliate staff credentialing for Nova Scotia Health and is held accountable for meeting strict timelines in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and NSH policies. The position is responsible to facilitate, build reports and support four Zonal Credential Committees (ZCC), Provincial Health Authority Medical Advisory Committee (HAMAC) and the Board for recommendation and approval. This position serves as the initial point of contact for credentialing and privileging, liaising with the VP Medicine, Zone Department and Division Heads, Site Leads, Physicians, Dentists, Affiliate Scientists, Residents, Medical Learners, administrative staff, IT Services, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS), Canadian Medical Malpractice Association (CMPA), Canadian Dental Association (CDA), Canadian Dental Service Plans Inc. (CDSPI), Medical Council of Canada (MCC) and Dalhousie University. The Credentialing Officer is an interpretation resource for all aspects of the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, as well as, forms, applications and documents necessary to the credentialing and privileging process. The Credentialing Officer maintains current, historical, legal, and confidential documentation for Medical, Dental and Affiliate Staff files as per the Retention of Records Policy. The Credentialing Officer acts as an advisor to the Chair of the Credentials Committee providing direction and familiarity with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements as they pertain to credentialing and privileging. He/she establishes and maintains a collaborative and consultative relationship with departmental and divisional leaders, as well as, all stakeholders involved in the approval process. The Credentialing Officer also works directly with the NSH Information Technology Department, STAR, Voice Services, and many updates received via email and fax to ensure the information management system used to store, track and maintain the credentialing and privileging information is accurate. About You We would love to hear from you if you have the following: Two year Business Administration Program (or equivalent) is required Minimum of three years of administrative experience is required Advanced computer skills within Microsoft applications (Excel formulas and queries, Access database creation and queries, mail merges, database troubleshooting) Knowledge of medical regularity bodies and NSH Medical By-Laws as asset Familiarity with NSH’s organizational structure, including zone-based operations, and experience coordinating and communicating regularly with administrative assistants, clinical departments, ZMed offices, and leadership across multiple zones, is considered an asset Medical Terminology is an asset Able to initiate, coordinate, organize and complete multiple tasks, working independently within specified timelines and conflicting deadlines Understands the importance of excellent customer service Excellent communication skills Ability to transcribe minutes Excellent ability to use sound judgment in taking initiative, decision making, and problem solving skills, both individual and collaborative Ability to work independently using sound judgment and understand, interpret and apply knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws Ability to understand the broad legislated and regulated requirements relevant to the hospital and health industry Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred PLEASE NOTE: Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly state such equivalencies in their cover letter, resume, or application.
