About the Job:Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):• Performs assessments and plans, implements and provides personal and nursing care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; the scope or extent of the skills that the LPN performs varies according to the predictability of the outcome for a given client population• Under the direction and supervision of a physician/nurse practitioner (NP), provides orthopaedic care by performing duties such as assessing and evaluating patient condition; reviewing x-rays to confirm plan of care; applying casts and splints; removing externally exposed pins, wires, staples and sutures; setting up traction equipment and performs related orthopaedic duties• Operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocolsThis is a permanent full-time opportunity.Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights; rotating from 07:30 to 19:45, 19:30 to 07:45 hours.About this location/unit:RIH is a tertiary referral hospital and our Emergency department has 18 beds, 2 trauma bays, a clinical decision area, streaming area, minor treatment area, and an ambulatory care area. We treat 75,000 patient per year and our nursing staff work 12 hour shifts. We see a broad spectrum of patients in age and acuity. Due to our geographical location and outdoor activities we see a large amount of trauma.
