Licensed Practical Nurse





City: Kamloops
Program and Site Location: TiOAT Clinics (Kamloops)
Reports To: TiOAT Coordinator 
Term: Casual/On-Call
Wage Range: $32.84 up to $41.35 based on education and related experience.

Purpose and Function:

As the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will work in collaboration with our Transitional Housing Team, Outreach Team, Interior Health, and Interior Community Services.  Coordinate the nursing and health needs of clients and assist with street level services to individuals living with addictions, mental health issues, homelessness, and those at risk of being homeless and assist them in accessing health, housing, and social services.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with Interior Health and Interior Community Services as a part of a multidisciplinary team to provide outreach services to vulnerable/marginalized clients within our community.

• Coordinate nursing services for a marginalized demographic with various mental health and substance use needs, involving various comorbidities.

• Assist with street level services to individuals living with addictions, mental health, and homelessness to assist with accessing health, housing, and addiction services

• Provide harm reduction education and support, from a nursing perspective, on issues relating to substance use and those who are at high risk for Communicable Diseases in effort to prevent and control communicable infections and diseases.

• Contribute to the protection of Program Participants from abuse, and support Participants when they are in distress;

• Monitor emergencies that take place such as medical or mental health assistance and complete necessary incident reports.

• When necessary, be trained to be the first to respond to an overdose situation with on-the-spot overdose response and support.

• When required, provide additional services to other supportive housing settings.

• Be prepared to work calmly and together with your team, paramedics, and police in crisis situations.

• Ensure Limitation of Service Notices are completed and current.

• Help maintain a clean and organized workspace by doing light housekeeping in the office space.

• Encourage positive lifestyle choices into the lives of those we serve.

• Ensure compliance with all ASK supportive standards, policies, and procedures.

• Assist team to maintain complete documentation, verbal and written reports, statistics and records in files on our Telus CHR.

• Maintain files and documentation to the COA Standard and when requested, be a member of the COA's Performance and Quality Improvement team in which you will encourage the organization to use data to identify areas of needed improvement and implement improvement plans.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from a recognized program for Licensed Practical Nurses.

• Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

• Two (2) years recent experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse providing care through trauma informed lens with vulnerable adults, mental health/addiction/homelessness issues.  Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

• Self motivated and able to perform a wide range of tasks including IM/SQ injections

• Skills in mediating conflict between various interests.

• Ability to work as a team member in a case management setting involving multi-agency support.

• Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries.

• Strong working knowledge of community resources.

• Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills.

• Must pass criminal record check for vulnerable sector and reference screening.

• Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Informed Practice an asset.

• Valid Basic First Aid – CPR C is required.

• Must have access to vehicle in good working condition and possess valid driver's license.

• In-house Violence Prevention Training and a wide variety of courses are provided.
