Instrumentation Technician – Building Automation (PLC Focus) Cahill Technical Services (CTS), a division of The Cahill Group, is seeking an Instrumentation Technician with experience in PLC to support automation, commissioning, and controls work across building and industrial applications in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This role is ideal for a Technician with a strong PLC and instrumentation background who is interested in applying industrial automation skills to building systems, energy infrastructure, and complex control environments. Location: Dartmouth, NS (Hybrid) Travel Requirement: Regular business travel job site dependent Training & Development: Ongoing technical and professional development opportunities available What You’ll DoProgram, commission, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systemsConfigure I/O, control logic, and communication networks Integrate PLC systems with building automation, monitoring, and supervisory platforms Perform calibration and testing of sensors, transmitters, and field devices Support commissioning and verification activities Diagnose and resolve control system, instrumentation, and communication issues Assist with panel design review, wiring checks, and field installations Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams Participate in project turnover, documentation, and client training Review technical drawings and specifications for accuracy and constructability Interest in learning design using AutoCAD and Bluebeam, preparing them for seamless field installation. Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders to achieve cohesive system integration across all phases of the project. What We’re Looking ForInstrumentation, Electrical, HVAC, or Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma (or equivalent experience) 2+ years of experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems, however, candidates with more extensive experience are encouraged to apply.
