Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.The OpportunityOur Power & Energy Solutions team is looking to add a Power Trader to our Power Trading team focusing on trading in the short to medium term CAISO and Desert SW markets, based in Calgary, AB.The Power Trader will be responsible for setting the strategy to manage commodity risks using various hedging instruments. This includes tracking and reporting on power positional risk and financial performance, while collaborating with fundamental analysts to inform both short-term decisions and long-term strategic initiatives. In that effort, the trader is expected to meet the annual financial plan for the portfolio as well as deploy risk in a consistently profitable manner adding new business value within the risk compliance policies of the company.What you'll doMaintain an accurate power position and deploy risk to add new business dollars to the financial plan while managing commodity risk within Portfolio tolerancesCollaborate cross-functionally to develop a regional price view to support short term trading initiatives as well as longer term strategic effortsContribute to the overall P&L of the Western Power group through financial trading of Power complementing our Physical Power trading strategies Analyze current and forecasted market fundamentals across ISO and provide direction and view for power portfolioManage dynamic CCA and WCA portfolio for compliance and trading purposesProvide project support as an involved member of the Portfolio business plan projects and support any departmental initiativesTake ownership of specific Portfolio topics as regional subject matter expert and provide insights into these topicsMinimum QualificationsPost-secondary degree in finance, economics, or a related field5-10 years of proven success in power trading (preference for regional expertise in the West but will consider other ISO experience)In depth knowledge of the Western wholesale electricity markets, trading in those markets, and the associated infrastructure supporting those marketsKnowledge of physical power transactions in the WECC regionStrong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in data analysis and market modelingDemonstrate risk appropriate decision-making abilitiesPreferred qualifications10 years’ experience trading Western power with a focus on California and Desert SW powerAn advanced degree (MBA, Finance, Engineering, or related analytical discipline) Experience with PythonTo remain competitive, support our high-performance culture and allow for more flexibility in the way we work, we offer a hybrid work model and flexible dress code for our eligible office-based workforce in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. #LI-HybridAbout our businessWe are a leader in North American energy infrastructure, spanning Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
