For more information visit: legalaid.sk.ca/about/careers/Why This Role MattersIn this role, you will:Shape and lead LAS’s strategy for delivering effective legal aid services to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoplesServe as a key advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on Indigenous issuesChampion reconciliation and lead LAS’s Reconciliation Action PlanAct as a catalyst for justice system improvement and policy reformBuild and sustain respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities, rights-holders, and justice partnersYou will oversee Indigenous Services at LAS, including policy development, Gladue services, community engagement, and advocacy efforts aimed at addressing the over-representation of Indigenous peoples in the criminal justice and child welfare systems.What You’ll DoLead and support Indigenous policy, Gladue services, and reconciliation initiativesBuild and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and justice system stakeholdersProvide strategic oversight and leadership to direct reportsAnalyze legislation, public policy, and jurisprudence affecting Indigenous peoplesDevelop law reform strategies and policy recommendationsRepresent LAS on internal and external committees and advisory bodiesGuide communication and engagement strategies with Indigenous communitiesManage departmental operations, resources, and budgetsWhat You BringStrong knowledge of Indigenous social justice issues and laws impacting Indigenous peoplesDemonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Indigenous communitiesStrategic leadership, sound judgement, and strong communication skillsExperience in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and change managementAbility to lead teams, manage complex initiatives, and influence across systemsA law degree (LL.B or JD) and membership with the Saskatchewan Bar is preferredWillingness and ability to travel within Saskatchewan CORE COMPETENCIESLeadership: promotes the mission, vision and values of LAS and demonstrates high standards of fairness, honesty, and integrity.Client Service: leads by example and promotes a client centric culture and ensures alignment with best practices and LAS’ expectations.People Management: leads the Indigenous Services department or team in maintaining a climate of excellence, accountability, and respect.Communication and Interpersonal Skills: expresses ideas respectfully, concisely and persuasively, both orally and in writing.Leading Self: is aware of personal strengths and weaknesses and their impact on others.Acumen, Judgement and Decision Making: generates original ideas with practical applications.Work Environment & LocationThe successful candidate must be based in SaskatchewanProvince-wide mandate with travel to LAS offices and conferences as requiredPhysical office location will depend on the candidate’s residenceRemote or hybrid work may be an optionPreference will be given to Indigenous candidates.Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and will be accepted and evaluated until the position is filled.
