POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Director, Labour Relations & Occupational Health & Safety, the Wellness & Ability Advisor is responsible for providing expertise and coordinating the delivery of programs related to occupational and non-occupational illness and disability leave, attendance management, return to work planning, injury and illness prevention, accommodation arrangements, and wellness promotion. He/she/they works collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization and maintains the utmost discretion and sensitivity in carrying out their work.CANDIDATE PROFILEThe successful candidate will have the following:EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree with specialty in Disability Management, Occupational Health or other relevant health discipline.Extensive experience in disability management for a unionized environment, including:• Managing a diverse caseload of occupational and non-occupational disability cases with demonstrated success in facilitating timely and sustainable return to work outcomes• Proactive attendance management and fitness-to-work planning in a complex organizational environment• Developing, implementing, and evaluating health and wellness programsOr an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Employer. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Extensive knowledge and understanding of the philosophies, principles, practices and emerging trends of disability management, related legislative obligations and legal precedents.In-depth knowledge of the Commission’s organization structure, its programs and operating practices.Ability to successfully lead the creation and implementation of various disability management and return to work programs, attendance management initiatives, injury prevention strategies and wellness initiatives to support the Commission’s strategic plan and ensure a high-performance organization.Ability to establish and build effective internal and external relationships and influence acceptance of disability management efforts, facilitate appropriate courses of action and support employees at all levels.Ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and good judgment.Superior persuasive, consultative, facilitation, consensus building, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.Strategic, conceptual and analytical thinking, and strong problem-solving abilities.Effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
