Automation Systems GroupThe Automation Systems Group is responsible for the design, construction and support of innovative data center automation and control infrastructure. The department collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology and Management to ensure the system continues to fulfill Vantage customer requirements.

Automation Systems works closely with partner contractors to produce the best design and helps manage these partners to success by providing accurate requirements, goals, and timelines. In addition to design and construction, we are also responsible for the technical requirements of the Operations department involving troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing mission critical control systems throughout all Vantage locations. Position OverviewThis position will be based in Québec, QC. In alignment with our flexible work policy (3 days on site required, 2 days flexible).

Vantage is seeking a technically skilled and proactive Lead Automation & Controls Technician, NA to support and enhance the performance of industrial automation systems across its data center portfolio. This role serves as a key contributor to the reliability and optimization of control systems, providing advanced troubleshooting, system maintenance, and implementation support. The Senior Specialist will work closely with Developers, Engineers, and Operations teams to ensure automation systems operate efficiently, securely, and in alignment with organizational standards. This position is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong experience in industrial controls and a desire to grow into deeper technical leadership.

Essential Job FunctionsAdvanced System Support and TroubleshootingLead diagnostics and resolution of complex issues across PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and field devicesPerform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring or high-impact faultsSupport system upgrades, firmware management, and configuration changes across multiple sitesAutomation Implementation and OptimizationAssist in the deployment and commissioning of automation systems for new construction and retrofit projectsContribute to system tuning, calibration, and performance optimizationMaintain and update technical documentation including wiring diagrams, control logic, and device configurationsCollaboration and Technical GuidancePartner with Developers and Engineers to implement automation designs and system modificationsProvide technical guidance to Specialists and Operations staff during troubleshooting and maintenance activitiesCommunicate findings and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teamsData Integrity and ReportingEnsure accurate data collection and system logging across automation platformsSupport the development and refinement of dashboards and reporting tools for system performanceValidate data consistency and assist in identifying trends or anomaliesCompliance and ReliabilityEnsure automation systems comply with internal standards and external regulationsParticipate in audits, inspections, and risk assessments related to automation infrastructurePromote safety and reliability in all automation-related activitiesAdditional DutiesHandle additional responsibilities as assigned by Automation leadershipJob Requirements2-4 years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or related technical fieldProven experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial protocols in mission-critical environmentsExposure to data center, manufacturing, or utility infrastructure preferredProficiency in PLC programming and control system troubleshootingStrong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP, etc.)Ability to interpret electrical schematics and control diagramsEffective problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skillsExperience with system documentation and change management processesTravel expected to be up to 25%, but may increase as the business evolvesPhysical Demands and Special RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
