Automation Systems Group

The Automation Systems Group is responsible for the design, construction and support of innovative data center automation and control infrastructure. The department collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology and Management to ensure the system continues to fulfill Vantage customer requirements. Automation Systems works closely with partner contractors to produce the best design and helps manage these partners to success by providing accurate requirements, goals, and timelines. In addition to design and construction, we are also responsible for the technical requirements of the Operations department involving troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing mission critical control systems throughout all Vantage locations.

Position Overview

This position will be based in Québec, QC. In alignment with our flexible work policy (3 days on site required, 2 days flexible).

Vantage is seeking a technically skilled and proactive Lead Automation & Controls Technician, NA to support and enhance the performance of industrial automation systems across its data center portfolio. This role serves as a key contributor to the reliability and optimization of control systems, providing advanced troubleshooting, system maintenance, and implementation support. The Senior Specialist will work closely with Developers, Engineers, and Operations teams to ensure automation systems operate efficiently, securely, and in alignment with organizational standards. This position is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong experience in industrial controls and a desire to grow into deeper technical leadership.

Essential Job Functions

Advanced System Support and Troubleshooting

  • Lead diagnostics and resolution of complex issues across PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and field devices

  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring or high-impact faults

  • Support system upgrades, firmware management, and configuration changes across multiple sites

Automation Implementation and Optimization

  • Assist in the deployment and commissioning of automation systems for new construction and retrofit projects

  • Contribute to system tuning, calibration, and performance optimization

  • Maintain and update technical documentation including wiring diagrams, control logic, and device configurations

Collaboration and Technical Guidance

  • Partner with Developers and Engineers to implement automation designs and system modifications

  • Provide technical guidance to Specialists and Operations staff during troubleshooting and maintenance activities

  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams

Data Integrity and Reporting

  • Ensure accurate data collection and system logging across automation platforms

  • Support the development and refinement of dashboards and reporting tools for system performance

  • Validate data consistency and assist in identifying trends or anomalies

Compliance and Reliability

  • Ensure automation systems comply with internal standards and external regulations

  • Participate in audits, inspections, and risk assessments related to automation infrastructure

  • Promote safety and reliability in all automation-related activities

Additional Duties

  • Handle additional responsibilities as assigned by Automation leadership

Job Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or related technical field

  • Proven experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial protocols in mission-critical environments

  • Exposure to data center, manufacturing, or utility infrastructure preferred

  • Proficiency in PLC programming and control system troubleshooting

  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP, etc.)

  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams

  • Effective problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Experience with system documentation and change management processes

  • Travel expected to be up to 25%, but may increase as the business evolves
