Working under the direction of HSE professionals, the student assists with inspections, documentation, training support, and field-level safety activities to help promote a safe and compliant work environment across construction projects. This opportunity will provide both office and field exposure, with some travel required. This will be a 4, 8, or 12-month work term starting May 2026. This position is based in Calgary, AB. Reporting to: HSE ManagerDuties & Responsibilities:Health & Safety SupportAssist with site safety inspections and hazard assessments.Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), safe work practices, Stretch and Flex Program and field-level risk assessments.Support incident, injury, and near-miss reporting and documentation.Assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientation materials.Observe work activities and report unsafe conditions or behaviors to supervision.Documentation & AdministrationMaintain safety records, inspection forms, and training documentation.Assist with data entry, tracking, and reporting of safety statistics.Support preparation of reports, presentations, and audit materials.Training & CommunicationAssist with onboarding and site orientations under supervision.Support development and distribution of safety communications and bulletins.Promote safety awareness and positive safety culture on site.Skills & KnowledgeAbility to manage multiple assignments with tight timelinesExcellent organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicting prioritiesAble to influence and effectively communicate with othersBasic computer skills (Microsoft Office)Working ConditionsCombination of office and active construction site environmentsExposure to outdoor weather conditionsUse of personal protective equipment (PPE) as requiredPeriodic travel to project sites may be requiredQualifications:RequiredCompletion of 1st year OH&S Diploma or similar programMust have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable vehicleAbility to work in a construction site environmentMust have a good understanding of workplace health principles, industry best practices and standards, health and safety legislationStrong organizational and communication skillsPreferredPrevious construction or industrial experienceFirst Aid, WHMIS, or CSTS (or equivalent) trainingInterest in pursuing a career in HSE or construction managementCompetencies for successWillingness to learn and take directionAttention to detailProfessionalism and confidentialityStrong interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong organizational and communication skillsReady to build your career with us?
