The Youth Support Worker plays a key role in empowering at-promised youth through recruitment, training, mentorship, and individualized support. This position is responsible for guiding participants through job and life skills development, conducting needs assessments, administering performance evaluations, and supporting high school credit applications. The incumbent is also responsible for the research, design, development, implementation, and facilitation of the Job and Life Skills Development training. In addition to supporting participants, the Youth Support Worker also provides continued mentorship to those who transition into casual staff roles within Youth Worx.

This includes overseeing recruitment efforts, providing ongoing support, ensuring their work aligns with program objectives, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment to strengthen overall service delivery. More information on the Youth Worx Program can be found by visiting: www.halifax.ca/youthworx DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Recruitment & Onboarding:Conduct and coordinate the recruitment and hiring process for Youth Worx participants and casual Youth Worx staff; maintain online applicant tracking system, facilitate information sessions, conduct assessments and interviews, complete reference checks and respond to information queries via phone, email, website, and Instagram. Support the onboarding and orientation of casual staff, ensuring familiarity with organizational policies, safety procedures, and role expectations. Coaching, Support and TrainingFacilitate performance development sessions with program participants, including conducting assessments and reinforcing behavioural expectations and program guidelines.

Recommend and implement courses of action for performance improvement with program participants using positive reinforcement and individualized strategies; conduct follow-up meetings to monitor progress. Act as a support for casual employees, providing guidance, mentorship, and support throughout their assignments. Monitor casual staff performance through observation, informal check-ins, and feedback from Operations Supervisors. Provide real-time coaching to help casual staff develop core skills, including customer service, communication, and teamwork.

Maintain accurate records related to casual staff development, feedback, and performance improvement plans. Facilitate post program assessment and evaluation for program participants. First point of contact in the complaint resolution process for program participants; escalates complex issues to the Manager, Youth WorxCoordinate training and/or delivery of certifications in Job experience modules, Food Safety, First Aid, Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT) and WHMIS for program participants and casual staff. Develop and deliver job readiness/life skills modules and special events for program participants and casual staff.

Facilitate career development through internal and external agencies; provide guidance to program participants on future job or educational goals. Develop and nurture relationships with appropriate internal and external contacts. AdministrationDevelop, implement, and re-evaluate program guidelines and procedures as required. Track training compliance and ensure all casual staff meet mandatory certification and policy requirements.

Collect and analyze program statistics through the ESAT system. Reconcile records of youth service providers to ensure the latest information is readily availableProvide program information including statistics, demographics, and success stories for the Youth Engagement Report which is sent annually to Regional Council. Support engagement with and implementation of the Youth Services Plan. Monitor youth engagement trends across social media platforms (e.g., Spotify, Instagram) pertaining to job and life skills learning sessions; collaborates with internal and external Key Partners and maintains tracking spreadsheetCoordination of the Nova Scotia High School Credit program, including participant application, monitoring and maintenance of accurate documentation in accordance with high school credit policy requirements.

Develop, monitor and maintain all program participant files, including individual participant action plans and portfolios to support program participants. Maintain participant database and confidential records. Support scheduling of program participants in multiple operations. Maintains a list of service providers.

May perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualification

Education & Experience:Undergraduate degree in Recreation Management, Community Development, Child & Youth Studies, Social Work, Social Sciences or related disciplineMinimum of three (3) years working in a leadership setting with youth ages 16-24 years old. Must possess a Nova Scotia Driver’s License. Must have reliable access to a vehicle. Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of Positive Youth Development.

Demonstrated knowledge of engagement, facilitation, and coaching techniques. Knowledge of employability skills and Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT). Computer technology skills in programs including: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access. Demonstrated knowledge of various social media platforms.

Demonstrated database management experience. Demonstrated experience utilizing recruitment and hiring techniques. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and administrative abilities. Demonstrated interpersonal, group communication skills and ability to foster learning or development of others.

Ability to make decisions relative to urgency and importance. Ability to coach, mentor, and make recommendations regarding performance and potential discipline matters.

Security clearance requirements

Bi-Annual Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Checks. This position will have access to and/or knowledge of confidential information; therefore incumbent will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement. Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job-specific knowledge. Work status

Permanent, full-timeHOURS OF WORK: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, 35 hours per week SALARY: NU4, $56,770 - $73,470. Salary will be determined based on relevant experience and qualifications related to the specified pay band and job. Placement above the midpoint of the pay band is typically reserved for candidates who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications, such as those with exceptional experience, specialized skills, or demonstrated achievements relevant to the role. This ensures fair and consistent compensation practices across the organization.
