This role helps to develop and redesign curriculum and to implement new pedagogical approaches that provide hands-on, interdisciplinary and authentic learning experiences, enabling students to engage with real-world engineering challenges and allowing them to develop sound engineering practices while honing their professionalism, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Teaching and Learning Team, the Educational Developer is responsible for assisting in planning, implementing and evaluating programs/curriculum to support program success and the professional teaching development of Faculty Members, Teaching Assistants and other educational support professionals. Other responsibilities include identifying, developing and implementing innovations in curriculum that reflect discipline, societal, and future needs. The Educational Developer is also a key contributor in designing and delivering workshops, seminars and training sessions that promote and inspire the evolution of engineering education. Job Description KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Engages with faculty and staff to understand current teaching and learning challenges and identify opportunities for program improvement.• Collaborates with faculty and staff to plan, develop, and evaluate curriculum changes in support of strategic priorities.• Identifies and supports opportunities for interdisciplinary learning prospects at multiple levels, bringing together program leads and planning curricular/course changes.• Contributes to the design, development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Faculty-wide policies, procedures, resources and programming as they relate to teaching and learning at a curricular level. • Researches, synthesizes and assists in the selection, development, and implementation of evidence-based effective practices for curriculum and courses, advancements in subject matter education, evolving theories of learning, and the use of educational technology and other resources for learning.• Delivers or recommends individual and group learning sessions. • Contributes to an in-house library of educational resources. • Maintains teaching experience through workshops, guest speaking and other discipline-based teaching opportunities. • Actively contributes to curriculum-and-pedagogy-related strategic working groups.• Collaborates as part of a team of Educational Support Professionals to promote research-informed and evidence-based teaching and learning in Smith Engineering.• Contributes to curriculum mapping for accreditation, assessment, and evaluation of student learning and engagement outcome data.• Engages with Instructional Designers to support iterative course-and-program design.• Mentors and provides work direction to work placement students.• Promotes a culture that supports equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization in the workplace and acknowledges the diverse ideas and the interests of all stakeholders in decision making. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s Degree required, specialization in engineering or education is preferred. • A minimum of 3-5 years of direct educational development experience in a post-secondary environment.• Demonstrated ability to work with educators to develop inclusive, broad-perspective higher education curriculum.• Experience with curriculum reform is an asset.• Highly skilled in consultation and facilitation techniques. • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset.• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
