Working under the direction of the Manager, Professional Practice - Nursing, and in collaboration with the

Program Managers, Advanced Practice Nurses, Clinical Education and educational partners, the Clinical Educator

assists clinical staff in preparing for contemporary practice through the provision of education and professional

development activities. The Clinical Educator supports clinical staff to acquire and maintain nursing/clinical core

competencies, knowledge and skills reflective of the most current evidence based care for individuals admitted

to specialized hospital services. The Clinical Educator will promote and provide support and assistance to

individual clinical staff member’s professional accountability for reflective practice and self-directed learning.
The Clinical Educator will ensure that educational activities reflect the Mission, Vision, Values, goals, and

priorities of Providence Care.

**Role Responsibilities**
- In collaboration with the Manager, Professional Practice - Nursing and Advance Practice Nurses, develops and

delivers evidence-based education material and ensures knowledge/practice transition into education plans
- In collaboration with the Clinical Education Coordinator - ensures that clinical education is organized and

consistent for all clinical staff and clinical students
- Presents and facilitates educational programs and in-services and evaluates activities
- Identifies practice issues/gaps using an evidence-based approach, and assists with implementing/educating a

best practice approach
- Develops, implements, and coordinates a competency based interprofessional clinical orientation program

and ongoing educational opportunities for the hospital programs
- Integrates diverse concepts into current clinical practices. Serves as a formal and informal resource by

assisting clinical staff in identifying learning needs and suitable internal/external resources to meet those
needs
- Provides effective education to clinical staff to support knowledge, skills and attitude requisite for safe,

competent and effective nursing practice in an inpatient environment, in collaboration with Manager,
Professional Practice - Nursing, program leadership and educational partners
- Plans, coordinates and conducts educational activities on new policies, procedures and equipment, in

conjunction with Manager, Professional Practice -Nursing,, and program leadership
- Serves as an educational consultant to hospital programs, working groups, committees, and projects relating to

policy, procedure and program development
- Communicates with educational resources across Providence Care to identify areas of clinical collaboration

and shared learning
- Assists the Manager, Professional Practice - Nursing to advance leadership and accountability of individual

nurses as related to the standards of care of the College of Nurses of Ontario

**Required Qualifications and Experience**:

- Baccalaureate in Nursing required; an equivalent combination of education and experience of practice

development in a hospital may be considered
- Current, unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario***

Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Adult Education or minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching adult
education programs
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant clinical areas providing direct patient care
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered***

Canadian Nurses Association Certification in specialty area where applicable, preferred
- Canadian Nurse Educator Certificate, preferred
- Current valid Ontario driver’s license
