You’ll work closely with engineering partners, contribute directly to product quality and reliability, and provide valuable manufacturing feedback that influences design improvements.This role offers the opportunity to apply your technical skills in electromechanical assembly, collaborate cross-functionally, and continuously develop your expertise in advanced assembly, SMT rework, and IPC standards—all while supporting products deployed globally.This role is based out of our Ottawa, Ontario office and working full-time on-site. With an on-site working schedule, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate in person and build strong connections with our team. What You’ll Do:Assemble mechanical and electrical components using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.Read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and written work instructionsPerform soldering, crimping, and wire routing tasksInspect and test completed assemblies for functionality and qualityIdentify and report any defects or issues during the assembly process and provide ‘lessons learned’ engineering feedback through experience gained during build activity.Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues.Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.Able to effectively multi-task and accurately track progressWho You Are:You’re a hands-on, quality-driven assembler who takes pride in precision work and thrives in a technical, collaborative environment.Education & ExperienceMinimum of 3 years’ experience in electronic equipment assembly and manufacturing.Proven experience working with electronic components in a manufacturing or lab environment.Hands-on expertise in soldering, cable assembly, and mechanical/electronic assembly.Experience with fine-pitch SMT soldering and rework (an asset).Experience using a PLM tool such as Agile (an asset).Skills & CompetenciesExceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.Strong hand-eye coordination for working with small, sensitive components.Proficient with assembly tools, crimping tools, automated equipment, and multimeters.Ability to interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation.Familiarity with ESD handling best practices.Ability to identify and clearly communicate manufacturing non-conformances.Working knowledge of IPC standards and/or willingness to become ORBCOMM’s IPC resident expert through company-sponsored training (cable assembly, SMT repair, PCBA modification, and inspection).Demonstrated adaptability and ability to multitask.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.Organized, collaborative team player with strong communication skills.Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.Then we want to meet youWorking Conditions:May require standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.Work is typically performed in a manufacturing or lab environment.The Benefits of Working Here A career with ORBCOMM offers a unique opportunity to grow your skills and expand your expertise in a collaborative, innovative environment.
