Unit SummaryAs a part of a Regional Cancer Program, the Radiation Therapy / Treatment Planning Department of the Juravinski Cancer Centre is an expanding program that provides state-of-the-art planning, simulation and treatment for both external beam radiation and brachytherapy as well as comprehensive support for Radiation Therapy patients. The department includes a School of Radiation Therapy and a treatment and administrative staff that include Radiation Therapists, Treatment Planners, Clinical and Radiation Therapy Education Coordinators, Mould Room Technicians, Health Care Aides, Nurses Clerks and Secretaries. Currently, there are 3 CT Simulators, 1 MRI Simulator, state-of-the-art treatment planning system, 10 Varian Linear Accelerators including True Beam and Halcyon units, one Ortho-Voltage machine, an HDR Brachytherapy suite, and a CyberKnife unit.Position SummaryThe Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist (CSRT) is a registered Radiation Therapist who has acquired advanced knowledge and skills through a combination of workplace learning, formal courses and professional development activities. The CSRT will work within a multidisciplinary team to enhance radiation therapy practice and patient-focused outcomes for patients undergoing radiation treatment through expanded, direct and comprehensive care, education, research, professional practice, and organizational leadership. They are a highly competent, self-regulated academic practitioner permitting autonomous clinical practice in the management of patients undergoing radiation treatment within their specialty. The CSRT will also be responsible for developing a portfolio of clinically relevant research.Schedule Work HoursDays; Monday to FridayQualifications1. Qualified Radiation Therapist Registered with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) 2. Current OAMRS and CAMRT Membership3. Minimum 5 years’ experience in the field of Radiation Therapy 4. Completion or enrolled in a Masters Level or higher degree in a relevant area of study 5. Current BCLS certification with ongoing re-certification mandatory6. Proven leadership skills 7. Demonstration of research experience 8. Able to work independently with a minimum of direction 9. Excellent technical, communication, interpersonal, organizational, patient assessment, critical analysis and problem solving skills 10. Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, compassion, initiative when dealing with patients/families11. Strong knowledge of oncology including indicators, treatment planning, imaging, etc., physiology, disease progression and management of radiation therapy related side effects 12. Awareness of legislation relevant to the position 13.
