Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA) Job Duties

Job Duties 1. Develop curriculum.
  • Develop content for Indigenous studies courses and other courses related to culture and diversity.
  • Create or compile resource materials, creating assessments, developing digital materials (e.g. for Learning Management Systems), etc.
  • Provide advisement on curriculum decisions related to Indigenous content.

2. Lead efforts to Indigenize courses and curricula, including those that aren’t specifically related to Indigenous studies.
  • Collaborate with A&S faculty to authentically incorporate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, history, and ways of knowing and being into the content of Arts and Sciences courses that are not specifically Indigenous studies. Arts and Sciences includes the following main subject areas (in addition to a small number of niche courses not listed here):
  • Communications
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • Anatomy/Physiology & Biology
  • Physics
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Computer Applications
  • Drafting
  • Collaborate with other programs to assist them with the Indigenization of courses and programs.
  • Lead efforts to decolonize existing curriculum.
  • Share Indigenous knowledge as a guest speaker in other faculty members’ classes.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to incorporate Indigenous teaching and learning activities into their classes.

3. Contribute to projects and initiatives that incorporate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, history, and ways of knowing and being.
  • Collaborate with Arts and Sciences faculty on projects and initiatives that incorporate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, history, and ways of knowing and being.
  • Collaborate with other programs on projects and initiatives that incorporate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, history, and ways of knowing and being.
  • Collaborate with the department of Indigenous Strategy on projects and initiatives that support students and that incorporate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, history, and ways of knowing and being.
  • Facilitate the KAIROS Blanket Exercise.
  • Contribute to professional development in furtherance of Indigenization efforts.
  • Attend staff meetings.

4. Maintain Indigenous advisory committee.
  • Lead efforts to recruit Indigenous advisory committee members.
  • Correspond with Indigenous advisory committee members.
  • Organize and lead Indigenous advisory committee meetings.

5. Instruct courses in Indigenous Studies, culture, and diversity.
  • Provide instruction as required in both in-person and online formats.
  • Manage the classroom to ensure an optimum learning environment.
  • Plan and deliver content and learning activities that reflect a culturally diverse community’s values, beliefs, needs, and contributions.
  • Provide appropriate evaluation, assessment, and feedback to students.
  • Be flexible and responsive to learner needs using appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Respond to curriculum/course demands and make necessary adjustments according to learner needs, such as adult learning principles.
  • Be reflective of and responsive to the accommodation of learning needs, including equity groups and diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.

1. Minimum Masters degree in Indigenous Studies (PhD preferred)
OR
Minimum Masters degree in Education with a specialization/focus on Indigenous Studies (PhD preferred)
OR
Minimum Masters degree in Sociology with a specialization/focus on Indigenous Studies (PhD preferred)
2. Recent/relevant work experience (2 years in the last 5). 3. Ability to work as a team member and foster teamwork. 4. Effective interpersonal skills. 5. Ability to develop curriculum. 6. Ability to incorporate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, history, and ways of knowing and being into courses and curriculum. 7. Experience developing relationships and working with Indigenous Peoples, Elders, and communities. 8. Familiarity with Saskatchewan Indigenous communities, organizations, and leaders. 9. Experience in planning and coordinating projects. 10. Effective instructional ability. 11. Effective communication skills (written and oral). 12. Ability to travel.
