Hood Packaging is a manufacturer of quality packaging materials operating across Canada and the United States with 23 production sites. We have grown through innovation and strategic acquisitions, initially in the cotton business, expanding our flexible packaging skills to paper, plastic, and woven substrates. Our Montreal division specializes in producing and printing plastic film for the food industry and others seeking quality flexible packaging.

We are currently looking for people to join our family-owned manufacturing business. Our production team shows great initiative, believing in unexplored possibilities. If you are enthusiastic about making a real difference, we have a Maintenance Manager position available at our Saint-Léonard plant.

Main Responsibilities
  • Monitors machines for safe operating conditions and generates maintenance work orders as necessary.
  • Reviews security proposals and recommends implementation, investigates unsafe conditions, and suggests corrective actions.
  • Administers the preventive maintenance program, making recommendations on equipment condition and problem areas.
  • Plans, assigns, and prioritizes work during plant maintenance shutdowns, allocating personnel accordingly.
  • Makes arrangements with outside contractors or suppliers for repairs or modifications and prepares necessary documentation.
  • Determines parts needed for repairs, supplies suppliers, and prepares purchase requisitions, following corporate rules.
  • Participates in continuous improvement projects.
  • Manages capitalizable maintenance projects, ensuring costs and deadlines are respected.
  • Controls contractor access, records work locations, and manages contractor access cards.
  • Reviews performance of factory service contractors and oversees building maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains facilities and equipment per insurance policy requirements.
  • Keeps records of work orders and maintenance in a computerized system.
  • Stays updated on new products, methods, or technologies.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with HACCP, food safety, GMP, work instructions, and SQF certification.
  • Provides competency-based training as needed.
  • Plans work for building maintenance and modifications.
  • Grants annual maintenance contracts for various departments.
  • Coordinates actions to meet FM Global insurer requirements.
  • Other duties as required.
Team Management
  • Promotes a safe environment, ensuring safety regulations are followed by maintenance personnel and contractors.
  • Directs and supervises staff, ensuring coverage for absences.
  • Trains staff to maintain necessary skill levels.
  • Motivates, coaches, and advises staff as needed.
  • Conducts semi-annual performance evaluations.
  • Handles disciplinary actions with relevant personnel.
  • Approves vacations and manages leave of absence requests.
  • Prepares work schedules and prioritizes tasks with the Manufacturing or Production Manager.
  • Holds regular departmental meetings.
  • Maintains high housekeeping standards for food safety.
  • Approves weekly time cards for the department.
  • Monitors repair and maintenance expenses to stay within budget and seeks approval for variances.
