The Manager, Clinical Innovation and Integration will report to the Clinical Director of Critical Care, Respiratory Services, Trauma, Women's & Children's Programs. The Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of initiatives focused on innovation and integration within clinical practice. This role ensures that staff development efforts align with program goals, fostering a culture of excellence and evidence-based practice.

The manager will play a key role in designing, delivering, and evaluating clinical initiatives, integrating research, knowledge transfer, and supporting the development of frontline-driven innovations. A significant focus will be on simulation-based training and other hands-on approaches to enhance skills and decision-making in these high-acuity areas.

This position is dedicated to the creation, implementation, and evaluation of programs that ensure staff have regular access to evidence-based practices, experiential learning opportunities, and innovation-driven improvements within the Women's & Children's and Critical Care Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of initiatives that align with best practices, evidence-based care, and program priorities (e.g., Critical Care, Women's & Children's Programs).
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop training materials, course content, and instructional methods that are relevant and engaging for clinical staff.
  • Design flexible and accessible learning programs that cater to diverse learning styles, ensuring that content is relevant and evidence-based.
  • Oversee the implementation of clinical training programs through various delivery methods (in-person, virtual, blended learning) to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Facilitate live and virtual training sessions, workshops, and seminars, ensuring high-quality instructional methods and learner engagement.
  • Coordinate logistics for innovation sessions, including scheduling, resource allocation, and participant communication.
  • Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, including pre- and post-assessments, feedback surveys, and performance evaluations.
  • Regularly evaluate outcomes to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in content, delivery methods, or engagement strategies. Use feedback and data to continuously refine and enhance clinical processes and integration strategies.
  • Conduct research to evaluate the impact of clinical training programs on staff performance, patient outcomes, and organizational goals.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in clinical care to inform program enhancements.
  • Create program specific learning pathways in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate short- and long-term plans which support and advance nursing practice and nursing standards through the creation of innovative opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of reflective practice by providing nursing-specific leadership and mentoring in an evidence-based continuous learning and research-based practice environment.
  • Support the program's development, implementation, and continuously evaluate an evidence-informed and cost-effective program-specific orientation program using developed principles, structures, and tools to ensure alignment with program strategic plan.
  • Lead and manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of the site's nursing enrichment program designed to maximize nursing scope of practice and enable continuous professional development, novice and specialty knowledge development.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing professional development of nursing staff.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of excellent care to all patients and families.
  • Create innovative approaches to academic nursing student placements.
  • Provide leadership and act as a resource for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor regulatory/practice updates and changes and develop and/or support the implementation of necessary changes in nursing practice.
  • Engage in knowledge translation and mobilization by ensuring that innovations are measured, sustained, outcomes improved, and findings disseminated.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of clinical simulations to replicate scenarios that enhance decision-making, technical proficiency, and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to design scenarios reflecting current clinical practices and identified needs.
  • Develop learning objectives, scenarios, and performance metrics for simulations, ensuring they align with the competencies required for clinical practice.
  • Facilitate debriefing sessions following simulation exercises, providing constructive feedback to learners and promoting reflective learning.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of simulation-based training by collecting feedback from participants, instructors, and stakeholders.
  • Use data from simulations to improve future scenarios, adjust curriculum content, and refine teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Explore and implement innovative simulation technologies, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and high-fidelity manikins, to enhance learning experiences.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, seeking out opportunities for integrating new technologies and methodologies into training programs.
  • Actively participate in strategic action plan and program improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with or lead other special projects or initiatives as needed.
  • Proven knowledge of and ability to work with Collective Agreements and Labour Relations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance and excellence in care delivery.
  • Develop and lead plans that advance program priorities and support integration goals.
  • Ensure the provision of excellent care for patients in a manner that is respectful of patient privacy and patient confidentiality; ensuring care requirements are met with appropriate competence and delivery; resolving patient care issues, problems and concerns, in a timely manner.
  • Managing, motivating, and providing professional/clinical leadership to multi-generational/interprofessional teams; ensuring ongoing practice and professional development of a cohesive team.
  • Liaising and collaborating with physicians and physician leadership to support operations of clinical area(s) and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with leadership and clinical staff to align operations with organizational objectives.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and Master's required; BScN and Master's in a health-related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years progressive leadership experience: management, clinical educator/professional practice - required.
  • Critical Care multi-site hospital environment experience (adult, neonatal, pediatric) - required.
  • BCLS and ACLS required.
  • RNAO, CNCCP(c), CNeoN(c), CpedN(c) preferred.
  • Evidence-based curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Participation in research.
  • Research skill set.
  • Lecturer.
  • Master of healthy teacher-learner relationship.
  • Knowledge and application of various pedagogical approaches to knowledge translation.
  • Strong teaching and adult learning skills.
  • Well-developed leadership competencies (negotiation, active listening, participative leadership style, ability to inspire others, articulate a vision for rehab nursing practice, delegation, influencing, goal setting, achievement-oriented, coaching skills, etc.).

  • Demonstrated understanding of CCSO/SOGC/Canadian Paediatric Society/Provincial Council for Maternal and Child health/Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women's Health nurses standards and metric accountabilities.
  • Proven track record of equity-promoting environment that improves the organization and inspires confidence and commitment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver simulation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and related best practice guidelines.
