Perioperative Care Services at LHSC offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to high quality, patient and family centered care across the continuum of care. The Perioperative Care services are offered at both the University and Victoria Hospital Sites of LHSC. Perioperative Care consists of all LHSC Operating Room (OR) Surgical Grids and surgeries, the Pre-Admit Clinic, the Nazem Kadri Surgical Centre, Day Surgery and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), completing over 17,000 surgical cases annually. In addition to the services documented at each site the Perioperative Teams are committed to improving patient care through many research initiatives.

The services offered at Victoria Hospital include General Surgery, Orthopaedic Spine, Orthopaedic Trauma, Urology, Vascular, Thoracic, Plastics, Dentistry, Otolaryngology, Gynecology and Paediatric: ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Plastics. VH Surgical Care is a quaternary and tertiary care center and a designated regional center for complex oncology, and level one trauma center serving adults and paediatrics. We complete approximately 15,000 OR cases annually including both elective and emergency surgery.

Job Summary

What the Role is

The Interim Manager, Perioperative Clinical Operations (Victoria Hospital), will have a demonstrated ability to develop budgets, analyze variances, manage capital/contingency, oversee RFPs and contract compliance. They will also be responsible for identifying cost saving strategies, complete financial forecasts, integrate case costing information, report trended data, assess benchmarking information. They will participate in volume monitoring, engage in strategic planning, monitor key clinical/financial metrics and implement strategies to improve performance. The role will lead citywide initiatives to ensure successful management of contracts, equipment needs being met and capital planning initiatives.

Reporting to the Director, Perioperative Care and Medical Device Reprocessing (Victoria Hospital), the Interim Manager, Perioperative Clinical Operations (Victoria Hospital), directs, controls and evaluates the delivery of department services. They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the necessary outcomes. The Manager ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives.

This role is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization.

What You Will Bring with You

  • Successful completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree program, preferably in a health care or business-related discipline
  • Related post-graduate education preferred
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in progressively more responsible leadership roles in a healthcare environment, preferably in an acute care academic teaching hospital preferred
  • Previous clinical and/or management experience in perioperative services preferred
  • Preference and consideration will be given to active members of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) who have, or are in process of attaining the Canadian Health Executive (CHE) Select certification program
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence experience including high quality and safe patient care and exceptional patient/family experiences
  • Ability to effectively work with diversity, appreciating that different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics can bring richness to the challenge at hand
  • Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
