The Project Design Engineering Manager ensures that the team provides high quality and effective support to development, construction and services teams in the following areas:Design and engineering management relating to project layout at development construction and operational phasesCoordination of engineering governance and technical solutions across different RES markets to maintain a holistic and consistent approach to promoting best practiceSafety in design in compliance with CDM Regulations (or national equivalent), including appointment as PD or PSDP point of contact were appropriateLeadership in areas of continuous improvement and application of innovative capabilities and technologiesOrganizational ContextThe Group Engineering team provides engineering support to all RES Regional Businesses across all phases of low carbon projects. In a changing global market RES needs to achieve cost parity with conventional generation and fuel growth of renewable energy, we have a role to ensure effective knowledge sharing across the RES Group and to reduce cost through innovative engineering solutions that achieve a balance between risk and cost. The department also has a key role in supporting RES to diversify into new markets and technologies.The role of Project Design Engineering Manager focuses on providing and maintaining the capability to deliver the engineering solutions to meet these objectives. This includes a focus on design management and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.Key AccountabilitiesThe Project Design Engineering Manager has responsibility to:Lead a team of civil engineers delivering design and engineering management to meet the safety, quality, cost and programme requirements of projects and the wider businessEnsure that team capabilities and resources are managed to meet the business needsEnsure that the team maintains a thorough appreciation of technology as applied to RES projects through appropriate training and experienceDevelop and maintain the team management systems and processes to ensure efficiency and compliance with the business needsProvide risk mitigation to support effective management of risk exposure across the RES GroupCoordinate best practice across markets and business units in the RES GroupKnowledge you will needSound knowledge of civil engineering principles and their application to the renewable energy sectorThorough appreciation of renewable energy technologies and their application to RES projectsWorking knowledge of relevant standards and regulationsUnderstanding of cross-functional project requirements and prioritiesKnowledge of UK CDM Regulations (and national equivalent in other countries)Skills you will needLeadership and management of people and processesProject and design management of complex project interfacesCommercial awareness relating to contract compliance, cost control and relative value of engineering solutionsGood time management skills to balance prioritiesPresentation skills to technical and non-technical audiencesExperience you will needManagement and development of staff within a similar organisational structureManagement of health and safety working practices and risk mitigation in designDesign coordination and design application for renewable energy projectsDevelopment and implementation of new processes and technologyPractical application of engineering knowledge to civil engineering projectsQualifications you needHonours degree in Civil Engineering or related subjectChartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (preference)At RES we celebrate difference as we know it makes our company a great place to work.
