Excellent salary and benefits
Marshalls is the UK's leading hard landscaping manufacturer and has been supplying superior natural stone and innovative concrete products to the construction, home improvement, and landscape markets since the 1890s. We’re a Superbrand for the 14th year running and a successful FTSE 250. The brand is synonymous with quality, and we’re the only company to have paved every square on the Monopoly board
Due to continual growth, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our Group Engineering Services (GES) team. The role will be based in Halifax with hybrid working and will be responsible for projects all over the UK.
So what's the mission?
Our highly skilled and experienced team provides all of the technical engineering capability and expertise required to enable the business to create, install and maintain new and existing UK manufacturing facilities. The team’s remit ranges from converting vacant Greenfield sites into fully operational manufacturing facilities to designing, engineering, constructing, and installing bespoke automated equipment and kit that’s required to handle bulk materials, make, mould and move concrete products, and perform special purposes within the production process.
In this role, as part of the Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation team, you will support the broader function of GES in the delivery of a wide variety of engineering projects across the group.
Projects range from small site support enquiries of a few hundred pounds, to multi-million-pound strategic business projects.
You will also be on hand to support technical breakdowns which are beyond the skillset of site-based engineers.
Additionally, your knowledge and experience will be utilised to continuously develop both the wider team at GES, and site-based engineering teams, where appropriate.
Key Accountabilities.
- Delivery of safe robust engineering designs and solutions in line with current legislation and group standards.
- Participation in initial project scope, design, and planning meetings. Offering insight, advice, technical expertise and support to other project stakeholders
- Evaluation of equipment safety and PUWER compliance, with the ability to scope and develop improvements and solutions to problems. (Training and development can be given)
- Ownership and accountability of front-end engineering design work (FEED). Including, but not limited to, feasibility studies, initial concept designs, and initial cost estimates
- Ownership and accountability of EC&I elements of project planning and delivery, such as tendering, quotes, resource planning and control, budget planning and control, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, documentation and operative training
- Technical support of business-critical engineering issues (online + phone support)
- Identification and development of new technologies and opportunities for working practice improvements
- Collaboration with the EC & I manager, Project Design and Installation Manager, and Workshop Manager where required, to drive smooth planning and delivery of whole engineering projects
What are the mission critical skills?
A broad working knowledge of the disciplines of Electrical, Control and Instrumentation, with specialist knowledge and experience in at least one discipline.
Essential :
- Level 3 (apprentice trained) electrical qualification, or equivalent
- Experienced and technically capable in a minimum of one discipline of EC&I
- Experience in working in a pressurised manufacturing environment
- An in depth understanding and working knowledge of standards applicable to your specialism
- Demonstrable ability of producing technically correct and compliant design solutions
- Experience of delivering projects on time and to budget, with demonstrable skills in management of resources and financial budgets within your control
Desirable :
- Level 4 (HNC), or level 5 (HND) electrical qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Experienced and technically capable in multiple disciplines of EC&I
- Experience in a similar environment. E.g. Bulk material handling
