Electrical Systems Specialist

About the PositionThis is a journey-level role responsible for installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining electrical and electronic equipment within the facility, adhering to the Canadian Electrical Code, local building codes, and established processes.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret drawings, blueprints, and electrical code specifications to determine the layout of industrial electrical equipment and installations.
- Work at elevated heights using aerial man lifts, scaffolding, and ladders while utilizing fall protection training and equipment.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies and regulations, prioritizing the use of safety equipment.
- Perform general maintenance tasks, including basic mechanical work, as required, and assist with emergency maintenance situations.
- Follow the Canadian Electrical Code, local building codes, and Company policy or procedures, interpreting electrical code specifications.
- Read, review, amend, and develop technical wiring diagrams, schematics, and instructions for scheduled and emergency repairs.
- Conduct detailed risk assessments of work sequences to identify materials and quantities needed for new and repair electrical/electronic projects.
- Perform general electrical maintenance, including installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical controls, panel boxes, wiring, and lighting systems, and programming equipment while prioritizing safety.
- Maintain, repair, test, and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
- Relocate or install surface mount and overhead cables.
- Troubleshoot electrical equipment issues using testing devices to determine the condition of electrical equipment, such as voltage, loads, ground faults, and circuit integrity.
- Repair and maintain high-voltage systems.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions and repair or replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
- Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components for corrective maintenance.
- Conduct preventative maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
- High School (Grade 12) or equivalent experience and/or training.
- A red seal industrial electrician certification and a minimum of 5 years' industry experience with equipment controls.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
- Knowledge of electrical applications for high- and low-voltage electric systems.
- Able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment policies.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement activities in your area.
- Meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and Canadian Government Security Clearances.
