Representing members committed to sustainability, MAC’s Towards Sustainable Mining® (TSM®) initiative is an award-winning and world-leading standard that fosters continuous performance improvement in environmental and social mining practices.Position SummaryReporting to the Vice President, Regulatory and Indigenous Affairs, MAC is seeking a highly- motivated individual with experience in chemical and environmental management policy to be the Association’s policy lead and technical expert on issues related to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act including the National Pollutant Release Inventory and the Chemicals Management Plan, circular economy, product stewardship, Fisheries Act, aquatic species, marine protected areas, and other emerging and related issues.Qualifications·        Degree in chemistry, biology, toxicology or related discipline.·        Familiarity with Canadian policy issues related to chemicals management and aquatic species and ecosystem management. ·        Exceptional written and oral communications abilities.·        Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other database software.·        Exceptional data analytical skills.·        Highly organized and able to work both independently and as part of a team.Assets·        Knowledge of the mining and metals industry.·        Awareness of global developments impacting chemicals and metals.·        Experience in public policy.·        Ability to communicate in both official languages.·        Experience working with large and complex datasets.·  Experience in multi-stakeholder dialogue and collaborationKey Responsibilities·        MAC policy lead and technical expert on: o  Canadian Environmental Protection Act Chemicals Management Plan o  National Pollutant Release Inventory o  Circular economy o  Product stewardship; classification and labeling o  Mercury and the Minamata Convention o  Fisheries Act o  Species at Risk Act (aquatic species) o  Marine protected areas ·      Support the Mining Association of Canada’s Environment and Science Committees and relevant task forces.·     Apprise the membership of emerging issues or trends within areas of responsibility and develop strategies for response.·     Develop and support submissions and briefs in response to legislative, regulatory and policy developments within areas of responsibility.·     Deliver presentations to government and public on areas of expertise.·     Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of interests including MAC members, service providers, consultants and members of the mining industry’s core stakeholder community, including NGOs and Indigenous leaders.·     Actively participate in industry committees, multi-interest committees, and other fora related to areas of responsibility and expertise.·     Monitor international developments that may be adopted in Canada.·     Assist and collaborate with other team members on environmental policy issues. Should you wish to learn more about this impactful leadership opportunity, or submit your CV and letter of introduction, please contact (in strictest confidence) HR@mining.ca  Applications will be accepted until February 6, 2026. We thank all applicants for their interest.
