Job Description and Requirements

EVRAZ North America is seeking an NDT Supervisor to join our Quality Control team in Red Deer. In this role, you will supervise and actively control programs associated with the maintenance, calibration, and operation of NDT and measuring equipment with a minimum of supervision to ensure system set up and testing practices are being conducted in a safe and efficient manner. The Supervisor shall ensure the NDT processes is performed in compliance with best industry practices and requirements.

  • Managing day-to-day maintenance and technical issues of all tubular NDT equipment and stations
  • Support production to achieve target production rates by ensuring the equipment is configured in a manner that produces expected production rates
  • Review system mechanical and ultrasonic set ups and assist UT operators in trouble shooting process upsets
  • Ensure the safety of NDT personnel and that all equipment is utilized safely and in a workmanship like manner
  • Ensure the CAN/CSA ISO 9002 and API Q1 Quality Assurance program is followed NDT personnel and that the appropriate audits are performed
  • Supervise the maintenance and calibration of the NDT equipment and ensure test standards are available and properly machined
  • Ensure appropriate records are maintained and readily accessible
  • Provide recommendations to the QA regarding NDT equipment and participate in decisions concerning the purchase of equipment
  • Provide guidance to mechanical and electrical maintenance personnel on changes, repairs, construction, and new equipment installation for NDT
  • Update the QA programs when required and recommend procedure changes bases on process changes
  • Work closely with the corporate NDT and implement new NDT procedures and equipment when required
  • Ensure laboratory service is available when needed by the production department.
  • Interpret API, CSA, ASTM, and customer NDT requirements and relay these requirements to laboratory, NDT and production personnel
  • Responsible for providing NDT support at other EVRAZ facilities when deemed necessary and appropriate


Requirements
  • Current Level II NDT Certification in UT, MT and MFL is preferred (expired certs will be accessed and training and recertification will be provided)
  • A minimum of five years' experience in the tubular manufacturing industry plus direct knowledge of tubular manufacturing NDT practices is preferred
  • Current or expired "Materials & Processes" certification is preferred
  • Experience in operating "EDM" equipment is preferred
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills, together with the ability to supervise NDT personnel are also prerequisites
  • Knowledge of pipe mill operations, heat treating procedures, API 5CT (NDT sections) and ASTM or ISO UT, MPI and MFI specifications
  • Mechanical aptitude, good manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities and work independently with minimal supervision
