Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team as a Pre-Analytical Specialist. As part of the Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS), you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory testing at 31 sites across the lower mainland and central coast of BC.

Estimated Salary: $62,000 - $80,000 per year

Job Responsibilities
  • Collect blood and other specimens, labeling them according to Fraser Health policies.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, aliquoting, and distributing them by priority.
  • Perform clerical duties, including computer data entry and communication of test results.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, reporting any problems to appropriate staff.
  • Prepare reagents, media, and specimen collection material, and distribute them as required.
  • Load specimens onto barcode-enhanced automated and semi-automated equipment.
  • Perform simple tests, such as urine dipsticks and glucose tests, using urinalysis machines and glucose meters.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, stocking adequate supplies at workstations.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 with successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program and one year's recent experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
